7970 Lightning, worth the premium?

Never heard of DSR. I guess i deserve the treatment I am getting for being such a 'newb' in this area.

Postage refund or item refund? because i don't want a refund, i want a working 7970 lightning

I think DSR would only apply if i were to refuse/cancel the delivery and in turn ask for a full refund on the item and postage. I don't think DSR would cover just the postage or am i wrong? only briefly looked into it

Can't watch that vid (on phone) but unless it breaks that 1.175v cap on Kepler then its pointless.

Forgot to add, you get a higher powertune of 180% I think with ab extreme.

It's a joke, I had the card for 7 days which i rarely got to use because i was too busy benchmarking everything. My card hit 100C and i'm pretty sure it could have gone further at 1.15v... with +20% power and +0 aux.

£450 GPU yet i have to wait 5-7 days for them to test it> Left without a functioning GPU for 2 weeks+.

Regarding the postage costs I will be making sure i get my £12.50 as it clearly states the shipping weight of the item is 4lbs which is under 2kg. I didn't weight the item myself because not only did i find it's shipping weight online but i used the exact box it was posted to me in and that stated 2kg. Not cool.

I should have marked the card somewhere just so i know whether they send me back the same card.

If any of you guys haven't seen this already:

EDIT: Grammar

Yeh I was in the same boat, I literally shipped that box with brown paper wrapped around it... I didn't want to have to pay a large fortune to ship a faulty product back, a product that showed its fault immediately after using it the first time.

I sent it back on the monday, they got it the tuesday, confirmed the card was faulty by the Wednesday morning... "We will ship immediately if stock allows it"... 6pm Wednesday passes.... Thursday.... 1 lightning card in stock... no shipping, Contacted them on the friday to ask what the hell? They shipped it almost immediately after I asked them and I got it on the saturday.

I was impressed with how quickly they found the fault but they took their time sending a replacement, almost looked like I was going to have to wait until tehy had more stock.

I will ask them about my refund for postage as that can go towards a new fan..

The card I have now was definitely brand new and seems to be doing the job just fine.

just received an email about how its posting fine and its currently in heaven right now and that it's probably going to be rejected to me. regardless of whether it posts which was probably just a driver fault it shouldn't be reaching 100C

No if you return it under the DSR you have to cover the return postage.

But what I was saying is that that seems like a lesser evil than being without a GPU for an unknown amount of time while a fault is tested. If it has to go away for repair, or resupply from elsewhere, it's even longer...

With DSR you get an instant refund so can re-purchase.

And there's always the risk of this. You'll often be charged the return postage if no fault is found.

Just to clarify, are you saying that I can get an instant refund and re-purchase because I'm experiencing a fault with the card even though I've taken the card out of the packaging + used it?

DSR = Distance Selling Regulations. When you buy something online you get 7 days to "try" it out before accepting it officially. If you notice the seller within 7 days that you wish to return it then they have to accept it back and refund you.

Just has to go back in a saleable condition with accessories sent back as well etc.

Also, I would stop spamming if I were you. There's an edit button :p

Wow in that case, I'm extremely lucky

Received the item: 12/06/12

RMA Confirmation: 19/06/12

Thankyou so much for informing me of DSR! Life saver

EDIT: Feel super bad about wasting this guy's time though

EDIT2: Cant delete post below :(

EDIT: I mentioned that in the case that the card will be rejected i would want it returned under DSR for a full refund and re-purchase.

After this i received a reply:

"The card is currently under going stress testing, at the moment it is in furmark, and even in this the max temperature it reaches is 88 degrees, well below the max temperatures allowed, however I have found that the maximum resolution the card reaches is 1920x1200 which is not correct so its fine the card is faulty and we can replace this for you."

That would have been a huge shock once I'd have gotten my catleap...

They said i wouldn't need to worry so I'm assuming It'l be returned via RMA instead of DSR. Should i just leave it at that or pursue DSR further?

88C stock clocks @ 1.05v : /

Does seem very high temperature. But Furmark is evil and cards never generally get to the levels that Furmark gets them too.

But it's being replaced anyway so no point proceeding with the DSR any more. Plus you have to notify them within 7 days of your intention to send it back. Today's the 20th and that's the first notification. The RMA raise doesn't count. They may take it anyway but they may not.

If you bought from Overclockers they have the 7 day DSR period followed by an additional discretionary 7 days on top which is really good.

Okay well i first brought up the my intention of sending it back on the 17th which was then shot down because they said as long as it was stable at stock clocks it wouldn't be classified as a fault. I pursued it further the next day. I think it would have been fine as he didn't mention it being too late either.

All in all i was totally expecting this process to go pear shaped but hey it worked out okay in the end.

Thanks for the info and advice. Sorry for spamming too.

yeah OCUK offer 14 days dsr now.

If you want to use DSR it has to be in writing via email i believe you cannot do it over the phone they told me.

Edit: 88 degrees is far too high for this card.

My top card runs at 55 degrees and my lower card at 43 degrees when gaming.

The restriction of airflow to my top card is the reason for the large temp difference.

O really? that's good to hear but I've read that returning under DSR could mean that another unsuspecting customer could receive the faulty/B+ item so i guess RMA would be best if given the option.

I've only ever contacted OCUK through their webnote service just in-case i needed to bring them up on anything later.

EDIT: Do you have any benchmarks lying around on here for your crossfire setup? Very interested in another one of these for a single high res monitor.

Damn the card i just sent off was playing around 75C 1175/1600 @ 1.15v on BF3 ultra settings 4xMSAA below 90% GPU usage

What are both of your cards at?

I should have gone closed loop. Didn't realize how massive this card actually was which means i can't get the card in the first slot. Haven't tried it with the reactor off with the noctua in the new orientation though, i'l see when i get it back.
