Ill"d like to really have a choice with a 680 version as well , but how long that may be i dont know ?

They are both literally the same performance across the board. I think it all comes down to whether or not theres a particular game you play which one of them is better at. And whether you prefer AMD or Nvidia products.

I would probably go with the 670, but probably a cheaper version but thats just me:D

so these cards have just re addressed the old balance on the new platform , 570=6970 - 670=7970 , but improved to be considered an upgrade than just a newer model . , Either one Should I be expecting 50% gains over the 6970 ?

it's too close to call now, it depends how far you can OC the card you prefer, in comparison to the prices.

only you can make that choice, i couldn't care less anymore, simply because i'm so glad that i dont have to use my GT8800 any more.... i had that card 3 years too long.

I just this article from a major German review website linked on another forum:

http://translate.google.com/transla...GTX-670-Test/Grafikkarte/Test/?page=3&act=url

It seems the retail stock models are supposed to hit 980MHZ on average but for some reason the review card they got hit 1084MHZ. Sounds rather strange TBH.

They tested the GTX680 at three different clockspeeds to look at the variation in performance.

Anandtech says 980MHZ is meant to be the boost clockspeed. I could understand perhaps even 1GHZ for samples but nearly 1100MHZ seems rather high when compared to the published specifications.

It might explain the closeness of the GTX670 and GTX680 in reviews.

Hmm the gigabyte one im looking at 980MHZ i assume is overclocked then , The 6970 is already overclocked to to 1000MHZ but has excellent temps in reviews , To early to know on this 670 i guess , My order finger is getting itchy , watching the mins tick by for next day delivery .

Interesting about the boost clocks being variable. Seems Gibbo experienced a similar thing with the Palit card he tested.

...snip...For some strange reason our Palit GTX 670 was boosting too 1071MHz, yet according to the specification it should only boost too 980MHz. This I can only assume is due to NVIDIA's boost technology detecting the card can run much higher boost speed without issue, hence the high boost clock speeds we witnessed from the stock Palit card. But saying that the Gigabyte WindForce 3X was boosting as high as 1202MHz by itself. As such when the GTX 670 boost so high compared to a stock GTX 670 the actual performance difference is closer to 5%.

On the OCN GTX670 thread there were thoughts that the boost is in increments of 13MHz, so the 1084MHz seems to fit nicely with what the Palit card above did. Seems that if the card can boost itself more it does.

Delaying my order now , but im slightly going full circle back to the 7970 just edges it , from one review site here , im seeing that these are 680"s but lesser binned , whilst if you were to buy an overclock 6970 your going to get the cherry pick of the bunch just the same if you was to go 680 premium overclocked card, My order of choice , 670-7970-680 though the differences are tight

Shouldn't have come on here. Only had my Sapphire 7950 a few weeks n looking at the fact I paid £330 prob would have been miles better off with waiting for a 670.......ahhh well hopefully 12.5 update will fix the few issues with this card.

Sorry Nvidea for leaving you so soon, i shall return in another few years :o(

Just going to post it because of all the idiots posting about the 680 being a mid range card:

nVidia's upper mid range card = AMD's top range card

l0l

It seems another major French review site also mentioned they get 1084MHZ too:

http://translate.googleusercontent....s.html&usg=ALkJrhjhyCaFrZHbN1AigSGi48cCBy8kCg

They also mention at the beginning that other colleagues have mentioned boosts of even 1123MHZ. Anandtech and Bit-tech also mention 1084MHZ too.

So,it seems the review samples are hitting 1084MHZ at least. It seems either review samples are hitting higher clockspeeds or the 980MHZ figure Nvidia is quoting for retail cards is inaccurate.
