Have a look at the full page tri-fire 7970 smoked quad sli gtx680 in bf3. Anyhow looking at the whole article nvidia and amd's tri-quad drivers need a going over.

According to the previous two pages, if you want to play Left 4 Dead 2 or AVP then the HD 7970 is the card to get, if you want to play Skyrim or BF3 then it's the GTX680.

I got mine on day 1 for less than the cheapest 680 on here.
It's only a waste of money if you can't justify or afford it imo.
