7990 Custom Bios - Remove Throttling

Ah :p that's that one sorted, cheers!

Any ideas for enabling crossfire in CCC? Not even an option there, that is on the latest beta drivers etc.

The option is not there in CCC with a 7990. (for some unknown reason)

If you wish to disable Xfire for a specific game you need to create a profile for it in CCC. See example below.

Use IMGUR next time mate. Embed the image on the forum. Its quicker and easier for you. :)

Set unofficial overclocking mode to disabled. What cpu have you got?

Things look pretty good there in your screenshot. Have you tried under volting the card a bit? 1.200v is generally overkill for 1000/1500. Try 1.1785v or even 1.150v, or even lower.

What was the problem exactly?

OK I think i saw in a post where you said try unofficial OC without powerplay.

My problem was that stock BIOS has higher framerates and low CPU usage expected from my i5. With your BIOS flash my GPU's have more load but I get lower fps. I'll try disabling OC mode

Cheers Matt

LtMatt, how did you make/edit the BIOS?

I need to edit mine (no overclocking program has kept voltage down permanently) so it's...

0.9v Core
700Mhz Core
1250Mhz Memory

(~1000kHash @ 70C)

Superb instructions, flashed my MSI 7990 within 10 minutes, all up and running. Mining now at 1000/1500 at 1.050vcore, 675k/hash per core approx.

Can't see an option to go to 50% powertune though, only 20% available still?

Before installing this bios I was having an issue with AB in that when changing the vcore, it only changed one gpu not both. When this happened i found GPU0 was 15c hotter than GPU1.

All appears to be ok right now though. Not tried any BF4 yet, will try that tomorrow.

Thanks again LtMatt.

hi guys (first post!)

I recently bought the GIGABYTE 7990 but have been completely unable to reduce the voltage on the card.

Is this card fully voltage locked?

thanks

( i want to reduce it because of fairly high temps - my core 1 is about 10oc hotter than core 0)

+20% is fine. I updated the bios to +50% is no longer needed. Enjoy. :)

Are you using the latest beta of msi afterburner and have you ticked unlock voltage control and monitoring in afterburner settings?

Hold on, i just changed to gpu1 in ab settings and its letting me change mv now, why only on gpu1 and not 2?

I've tried everything, looks like flashing the BIOS is the only option, got my USB stick ready and armed with new BIOS, just got to wait for family to finish using PC then it's go time!

Any chance of adding UEFI support to the bios? After going through 3 mobo it finally dawned on me to check if this even support it - kinda just assumed it would with it being a fairly new card.

Two Gigabyte boards died in the process :D well one certainly did while trying to flash back to award bios, the other is stuck in a boot loop.

I have 2 MSI 7950 TF3's in my other PC and a MSI 7990 in my current PC. With the 7950's OC'd to 1100/1600 @ 1.150v I score P15162 in 3DMark11. With the MSI 7990 flashed with the custom bios and OC'd to 1100/1600 @ 1.200v I score P15291.

Does this sound right, that an OC'd 7990 matches OC'd 7950's in crossfire?

It worked, thanks LtMatt! :D

Vcore was greyed out in VBE7 for #4/5 so GPU1 (the one that kept voltage jumping to stock) is now at 0.95v (minimum) and GPU2 is at 0.9v.

Getting ~1000 kHash @ ~70C @ 45% fan, yum!

Is that a watercooled 7990?

It applies to both gpu's. Afterbuer has a setting applied automatically called sync gpu settings.

Hi Matt,

Can you just have a look at my setup, I have flashed both bios as per the OP, disabled upls, crossfire tech icon appears during benchmark, but just doesn't seem right to me.

This is MSIAB post 3dmark test:

and here is my 3dmark score:

What are your thoughts mate?

Spot on there ^.

*The 7990 has built in protection to stop the card from drawing too much power. It should turn off to protect itself if you add too much voltage or let temps get out of control.

When you say turn off do you mean the whole system turns off or reboots? or does the card just stop working until a reboot? I.E fans lower speed and screen goes black.

How are you guys getting AB to give you 50% powertune? I cant get mine >20% on the slider. Typing it in makes it flash and go back to 20%

My BIOS flash halves my fps - I'll try the 50% powertune if someone can tell me how you make it available. Using Beta 17. If this doesnt work I'm going back to stock BIOS.

The flash does make the card run with smoother GPU usage graphs but my fps is halved in BF4. I've closed AB in the window (still running in background. Closed browsers etc. It just cant match the double fps I get under the stock BIOS. Beats me why mine is so different as I thought they were all the same-ish.

If I now uninstall AB will the ULPS still be disabled or does it require AB to be installed?
