7990 Custom Bios - Remove Throttling

another 7990 question:

Can we put 'coolaboratory liguid pro' on our 7990's? I have the gigabyte version but i guess cooling is the same on all of them - do they have aluminium block? as obviously you dont want the corroding problems!

Ruined 7990!

Dunno what I've done. But now I cant get any framerates out of my 7990. Can barely get 50 fps in BF4 at 1200p under stock BIOS. I cannot get back to 130fps average.

Right to save my sanity can anyone tell me what they are getting in BF4 for fps. Especially those running 1200p. And what they are getting under beta 9.5 as I havent rolled back yet and hope this is the problem.

I used that VBE7 to view my BIOS's and I can see the differences between them though I guess Matt, you made some more in depth changes in the hexidecimal parameters to actually change the BIOS?

Stumped as to why I'm getting such terrible framerates now.

You can, but be very careful with the liquid stuff. I ruined a 6990 by getting some of that on the circuitry around the gpu :(

how did you do that!? If i do it i was thinkin of sticking some masking tape on the sourrounding circuitry to protect it just incase of a slip etc n then peel off when finished.

or i suppose you could just apply to teh heatsink blocks and then place on the pcb and you will get the paste no where near it!... would that work?

I am not too sure how I did it :D

The problem is with it being liquid it can run off very easily.

I probably rushed mine, always do. If you are very careful it should be fine.

With a 2500k?
I struggle to get 60.

You using a flashed BIOS Fogo? HBAO takes quite a performance hit as does 4x MSAA. Struggle to get 60 at 1440p? You'll get a decent increase if you overclock your CPU too. Should easily be able to obtain +4Ghz on air.

This is what I'm talking about. I'm unsure everyone is getting equal performance with their 7990's

At stock with 1200p I was in the steady 130-140fps, everything on max bar post processing (as I dont like the softer look) and motion blur at 0%. ULPS was on. All ran at stock.

I did notice a marked increase in FPS using W8.1 ~40%

Last time I saw it was with beta 9.2 & 9.4 so I'm gonna roll back as that is really the only change. I need to create the original environment

Yeah I'm using LtMatt's BIOS.
I'm running at 1080p and my cpu is at 4.5Ghz. Even on High I get under 70fps average.
Running Windows 7 though :o

Hi, I've just flash my 7990 bios about 2 hours ago with this guide as I was finding that my performance in BF4 didn't seem right. I was on all ultra @ 1080p with one monitor and getting around 40-100 fps. I flashed my card with the steps above and now i seem to be getting around 30-100 fps.

The main test I done were on the Zavod 311 map and Siege of Shanghai. I used to get around 40-100 fps on Zavod within the middle of the map with buildings and with the flashed bios test i got around the same and maybe even less. I tried the map Siege of Shanghai without the flash bios and got around 40-100 fps too. With the flashed bios i am seeing around as low as 35 fps when the building collapses when i look at it to around 100 fps. This is with the same settings mentioned above.

I'm not sure if I've missed anything but it does seem that its about the same performance or maybe even a slightly worse than what I used to be getting FPS wise. If anyone knows why or is having the same issue it would be great if we could try find a solution to the problem. Thanks, also my specs are below.

PC specs:

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770k CPU @ 3.80GHz
RAM: 8192MB RAM 1333
Graphics Card: MSI AMD Radeon HD 7990 6GB
Monitor: Samsung 22" S22B300H Series 3 Full HD LED Monitor
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77M-D3H
Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
PSU: Corsair AX860 860W

Yeah mine is worse also. I could go back to the old BIOS and it was much higher. But now I cant get the stock or the new BIOS to get the framerates I was getting. There has been a patch since and i think that now blurs the problem. Could be the patch. I need to install another game and test the fps there. May try Bf3 and see what I get there. Or a benchmark and see what I'm getting. Flaming annoying. Gone back to beta 9.4 and still no increase. It's just odd now the stock BIOS wont go back to the fps I used to get.

Placebo, both of you. The bios does nothing that could harm fps. The only thing different from the stock bios is my bios does not throttle the card under intense load. Everything else is the same, EVERYTHING!

Hey man, I just flashed the card as per instructions, got verification etc, restarted and re-installed drivers/afterburner, but voltage control is still grayed out :S

whoooah whooah whoooah,

Matt

No one is blaming your BIOS. If you read what is written then it can be said the same for stock. I am still running your BIOS - it makes sense and it works wonderfully.

We are just in the thread asking others for feedback, help and advice - we dont expect you to be here all the time for answers. But please dont cane us when we are asking Q's between ourselves.

There is much cross thread discussion between here and the 7990 owners forum has as much about the BIOS flash as this thread.

On another note. I think it is the BF4 patch that has walloped the fps. For those quoting excellent fps from the 7990 please re-test your findings as it is all to easy to quote old fps from current reality. Mine still plays well but the fps has dropped. If other games etc benchmark the same then all is well and it is BF4 patch - please report back findings.

Best
