Hi guys,

I will try and keep it as short as possible as I tend to ramble a lot, saying very little in return. It's a curse on my part, one that I have failed to break (see! I am at it already).

Anyway, on Thursday, it's pay day, which means I will be able to afford a 7990. The only thing is the allure of a 9000 series card is conflicting me.

Now I want a card as soon as possible as I have upgraded my rig recently and the 6950 is now the weak link in the chain. It's served me well, but I need to upgrade to make use of the rest of my system. I have games I purchased, but yet to play as I wanted to wait for the graphics card before starting.

What do you guys recommend? Should I wait for the 9000 series, or should I go in for the 7990 (sucks I missed the special offer that was on recently, but couldn't afford it then). I am only gaming on 1080p at the moment, but I intend to go beyond that in the near future.

I will stop now as I am failing miserably at this keeping it short thing. So yeah guys, advise me on what I should do, maybe some stories of your experiences with 7990 if you own one. I know I probably can't go wrong either way, which probably makes me more crazy for being so conflicted. :D

Difficuly to say really...I doubt the 9 series will be quicker than an HD7990 until they bring out the inevitable HD9990.

However the gap will certainly be closed between the top AMD Single Card solution and the HD7990.

I guess it all comes down to price however as if we are talking about Titan levels of performance the card may also come at a premium but lets hope the top of the range card is still priced below the HD7990...I said hope! :p

I took the plunge personally and got an HD7990 as I don't expect anything released other than a dual gpu 9 series to be any quicker...plus being in a SFF setup it's the best way for me to get "crossfire" :p

A single card will have to be a monster to beat the 7990, the only reason I'd wait would be if you want a price drop but I can't see the 7990 going much lower than it is now, instead it will just be discontinued.

7990 won't be beaten by a single GPU, and for the cost, it won't be reduced further - merely phased out. Same happened with the 6990 which still dominates single 7*** cards.

Got a 6970 running three 23" displays, It will limp on to the 9k announcement! Wait it out and get some good power to round out your rig. It should be worth the wait, and if not, wait for a drop in Nvidia prices. Everything to gain by waiting just a few more weeks.

£479.99?!?! Surely the decision is made at that price for OP

Cracking price for an HD7990...won't be beaten by a single card from the 9series either, would be rude to say no at that price ;)

Annoyingly tempting. I really should stop looking at these deals...

:p

Its hot, noisy, huge, gulps power likes its going out of fashion, but at that price even I'd get one :D

God damn, that is a good price.

Thanks for the advice so far, unfortunately the split in opinions has almost directly emulated the "voices" in my head.

I have always been swayed towards the 7990 (and at the price linked above, that further sways it), my intrigue for the 9000 series is purely based on curiosity of what they are capable of. If I went 9000, series, I don't think I would end up getting two of them, because I think the price would be too much in total, which would mean the 7990 would be the better option performance wise.

I don't know why I am so indecisive about it, I am sure I will be very happy either way, both would yield a significant upgrade over the 6950.
