84 Confirmed dead after another apparent terrorism attack in Nice, France,

France needs to invoke article 5, how long do we pussy foot around because of public opinion

Article 50? :p It will be interesting to see if free movement is found to be a significant enabler as it was to carry out the Paris attacks.

Its those trucks again! First clogging up the motorway and blocking up the sliproads! One truck in France must have just had enough and thought to independently without anybody behind the wheel decide it had enough of drivers going faster than them so picked on the easy target of a pedestrian.

Its probably the dumbest post we will read in this thread... Blaming trucks.

Trucks don't kill people...

Article 5 of NATO. America triggered it after 9/11. France has suffered numerous attacks. It isn't getting any better

Unlike us they are very liberal, very anti spying, freedom etc.
Which IMO is a very good thing, it does leave them more open to attack though.

Rip, horrific incident

It won't get better. France are a strong country against terrorism as is the UK. Unfortunately France is easier to access and has been an easier terrorist attack as a result.

It wasn't.

Yes it was. Many of the terrorists crossed borders without checks. A border control would have 100% stopped that attack.

Forgive any ignorance, however, why does France appear to be feeling the brunt of these terrorists attacks over the past couple of years?

A quick Google shows 13 incidents since 2014, with the UK listed as four, all on a smaller scale.

I think there's a general feeling that France's security services aren't brilliant.

I see this thread's taken a predictable turn.

A lot of the attacks have been committed with high powered assault rifles like AKs, you'd struggle to get those into the UK without being flagged up pretty quickly. In France they have large borders with much easier access. Nothing stopping someone doing this in the UK with a lorry though.

I've no idea what the answer is but one thing is for sure, these attacks are not reducing, whatever is the plan against the terrorists simply isnt making any difference. These attacks are not going to stop they will continue indefinitely and whatever it is that our nations are attempting isnt working. Not sure what needs to be done but clearly something in our strategy needs to change.

Large Muslim population that has essentially been left to its own devices.

Thanks.

I guess, like with many things, its a complex mix of issues and variables.

I was just curious as France really seems to have been through the mill recently.

How could there not being free movement of people have stopped this happening? It's a bloke with a lorry. The free movement of people wasn't a 'significant enabler', here. I could fly to almost any country in the World tomorrow, steal a truck, then crash into people.

Fair point.
