8700k/8086k vs 2700x

Well if you plan on upgrading the CPU at any point at least the AMD platform allows that option ... Cheaper chip overall , money saved on a new board. . the new CPU (next year ) will pay for some of itself comparably . unsure as to why you would want WiFi on a desktop , but other than the better CPU phase config on more expensive board your paying for astetics and features . if your not all core overclocking , and sticking to the stock cooler would make sense to buy a cheaper but decent board ... My Asus TUF x470 is hard to reccomend as it doesn't support multi GPU or have a particularly good VRM but its cheap and can hold a 1.35v 4.1 all core pretty well .

im not close to an ethernet port. i have to use these powerline adapators but i'd rather have the option to just use wifi sometimes rather than plugging in these ethernet crap things and running wires everywhere.

So the intel stock shortage is real.

8086k from rainforest discounted to £380 is still out of stock.

Given that Ryzen gives you your own cooler and I don't think I'll be overclocking the chip straight away, I'm now leaning towards the 2700x again given that the saves I will get on the cooler + processor price difference, I could likely invest into a new processor next year IF I feel the need.

Which mobo/RAM would I be getting (preferably I'd like wifi) if I went down the 2700x route?

Theres a thread here asking something simlilar to you, with some good suggestions :)

Why would you want WiFi on a desktop......Ummmm not all of us havent got the access to a network cable next to our desktops maybe!!! and why would ppl want to upgrade there cpu every year, I know I wouldn't, I would want to get my money's worth out of it. So stop going on about how much life there is in amd motherboards for cpu upgrades, as I really dont think ppl are really fussed about that

Sorry Im having a bad day.

think you must be having a bad day , as I wasn't going on ? just the one post in this regard.... well I plan to upgrade my cpu on the same board next year so I'm at least one person . this chip sold and extra put towards next year , pretty sure il be getting my moneys worth.

I also use powerline adapters , and I do understand everyones different but its a rare I come across anyone who does use it that's all . had wifi on my x99 board but found it rather meh as wifi performance goes.

Is this thread still going? Everyone with any sense has told the OP to go for a Ryzen 2700/2700X or even 2600/2600X (and drop in a 7nm Ryzen next year) and that's what he should do. You'd have to be stupid to buy Intel right now with Ryzen on the market because Intel prices have shot up to absurd levels. The 8700K is £470 on OC UK! And it's even overpriced on Amazon @ £375 when the 2700X is awesome value at £290 (OC UK price).

Yes it's still going, by the time the OP buys something the Intel supply shortage will have vanished and Zen2 CPU's will be out, and there will be sun again in the UK. :D

Oh, then he'll be asking the same damn questions again, but about Zen2 vs. Intel :p

at 4K gaming there is no real difference between the two chips. If you are doing gaming I would go for a 2600x over the 2700x as it does actually perform a bit better plus a significantly cheaper.

My 8086k was only £380 when I bought it a few months ago. But yeah go 2700x if your wrorried about the money and if not go for any, but 8700k/8086k if you game more. But even then, like people says, theres not much in it speedwise.

I went for the 8086k for 380.

Thanks guys.

I might build a second ryzen system next year once the newer stuff drops.

The higher clock speed and edge in gaming convinced me. Especially if I drop down resolution at some point and for vr gaming.

I think ryzen is amazing value but ideally I want to get a 2080 and I think it’ll need every FPS it can get at 4K to hit 60fps.

For gaming Im guessing a beefier gpu will have more impact then a cpu anyway........ But Hopefully that cpu will last you quite a few years, as Im hopeing not to touch my cpu or motherboard for a good few years to come.

yeah me too. sadly the money i save on ryzen to intel or downgrading CPU will not be enough to upgrade me from a 2080 to a 2080ti.. the price gap is just that big really...

Well as you can see in my sig, I have only got the R9 290 gpu, I dont play meny games but all the games I do play run perfecly smooth enough to play. So yeah my gpu maybe bottlenecking my cpu big time but so what, just as long as games run smoothly with decent amount of detail. Like your in mega money if you want to stop all bottlenecks.

Yep watched that the other day. As I said before 8700k still better for gaming alone, which is even confirmed by this video, there’s very little difference in 4K score because at that res it’s all down to GPU not CPU. Even the author of video says he’d still go for 8700k every time over the 2700k for gaming. BUT, 2700k more appealing now due to the price.

You are right. The six core is fine for pure gaming. If gaming and doing other tasks like streaming. then the additional 2 cores helps.
