8700K Disaster, Bent on one side despite not applying much pressure when installing

Is the socket deformed at all? Can you put it back in the socket and take a couple of pictures? (I assume it still has the clamping plate etc?)

What is the cooler face like?

Form initial pic it certainly looks like CPU has been marked up by the notches in socket that are meant to stop you putting it in the wrong way - will be interesting to see if it still works!

Good luck OP! It's horrible when thing's like this happen!

Nothing so far, but trying a few things to try and get the original shape back

I take it you won't be trying the corsair again - have you got a HSF you can use?

Not at the moment, but I'll probably go back to a Noctua. Also, the mounting backplate for the Corsair isn't very good as it's loose despite trying a few refits.

So far I'm thinking of buying an X99 board and going back to the 5820K I have stored away.

Jesus ... its likely the die area is dead as the bend is fairly inclinded . Personally id purchase the overclockers warrenty from.intel and then a fortnight later send it back for a replacement . Highly unlikely they inspect under those citcumstances .

Yep unlikely that it will work. Just weighing up my options, get another, go Ryzen or move back to X99.

I could try a replacement with Intel but presume they will inspect it and go no way.

Don't mean to sound nasty but doubt its the cooler. I've had mine maxed out with a screw driver and never had anything like that. I'm pretty sure the socket would be warped as it would have to bend that as well. Looks like the cpu has been put in wrong or not square.

live and learn i guess. Never know you may get lucky OP and it may work. Fingers crossed.

I'd say stomach the mistake and get another if its dead. Doubt Intel will take it if its damaged. They may take it if it looks fine and doesn't have any marks or the obvious bend.

Yep, wouldnt have expected the cooler to be at fault given the low pressure from the small block. Honestly, I'm not sure what happened and still in shock. Suppose just gotta deal with it and buy another CPU.

The CPU now doesn't look too bad, unless you inspect it closely but I'm pretty sure Intel will know it's faulty to the physical damage.
