8700K Disaster, Bent on one side despite not applying much pressure when installing

It can't have been socketed properly when clamping it down for that to happen, unless you can prove that your motherboard socket has a fault which caused it then you'll be up **** creek without a paddle.

If the socket is not faulty I think you'll just have to take it on the chin and your main worry now should be whether any pins on the motherboard are bent.

It doesn't make sense the cooler doing it by pushing in one direction and the CPU bending in the other, unless of course the CPU was not seated correctly so the push down was resisted by something.

Feel bad for the OP as I remember how tenderly I treated my 8700K when it arrived and I always get nervous at the point of putting the CPU gate down.

imo only 1 possible way that could happen, the cpu wasnt seated correctly or it jumped out of position when you flipped over the retaining bracket. I dont see any way the heatsink from any cooler could physically bend a chip - its flat against flat and for the chip to bend means it had somewhere to go - therefore not in position. Hope ya got it sorted.

i agree with the first part of the tittle ... 8700k disaster.... rest of the tittle is just excuses :>
clearly cpu wasn't seated correctly as many of you pointed out already
