8700k pre-binned question

- Of course on binned processors we make more money as can be seen, though of course the whole de-lidding and binning procedure is very time consuming, so its not a free service nor one we intend on offering cheap, its a very specialised service and is why so few companies offer it worldwide and its a massive success for us and continues to grow.

You only pre bin chips to make more money, saying your passing on the cost of the time and effort to do this to the consumer as a premium on these chips is a outrage. Its not something anyone asks for, further are all your chips pre binned, im guessing not as no other cpu's on the components page has them pre binned. As i said above its just cash cow time from the consumer cashing in on a new release. Same with Vega and now the new intel CPU's

I didn't buy a binned chip. I wasn't paying that much.

But, OcUK sold out of them. Had they not binned them, they would also have sold out, it would just have been within about 30 seconds.

So you can't really fault them can you? The people willing to pay up to £800 for a chip deserve to get them first tbh.

Of course, if your outraged that is fine, just buy the regular version from us or from a competitor, you don't have to buy binned and pay extra. :)

Another sensible head. We are providing a great service to remove the silicon lottery and Temps!!!

Look how quick the binned chips sold out though - within an hour or two. There's people who read these forums who earn £60+ an hour, these binned chips are nothing in terms of cost to some people.

This is exactly why I brought a binned version, i don't have the time anymore to overclock and test. If I can get a chip that I know will do the extra speed, awesome. I have limited time, and just jump on play a game when I have time, else its all for productivity tasks.

I know some people are annoyed. And given my situation 7/8 years ago I would have done the same as I had the time, now my time is limited for things like this, I can see why they do it.

Also people are forgetting, the speed binned ones are not retail units which everyone's trying to get hold of.

BTW 8700k = awesome. You will enjoy it when you get it.

Thanks 8Pack :) You are providing a service, and personally I appreciate that I at least had the option to purchase an 8700k (I had it in my basket and watched the stock creep down as I talked myself into/out of buying it). Other etailers either broke NDA and they were all sold out before 2pm etc, or just price gouged (see other retailers currently selling for £465 which is only £34 less than you are selling for when delidded, binned, and with you taking on the warranty).

The only thing I think would have been nice would have been if OcUK could have warned us they would only have binned CPUs for launch, but I guess you guys already tread close to the line with winky faces etc and this was probably outside of your control.

Wait woot ?? People whining that you sell FIXED cpus with warranty ?? WTF on overclockers forum O V E R C L O C K E R S <---- If You dont like overclocking go somewhere else lol

Only thing that i could Whine about is that There ware no Binned Ryzen CPUS. And I dubt there will be any for Zen+ ?? And ill have to look somewhere else :(
Or if they clock **** ill jump back on intel :D For my needs 4.4x8 cores on ryzen would be spot on hehe.

When you guys are taking about delids, are you also saying you replace the ihs afterwards rather than cooler directly on the core?

I'm just trying to understand why there is a premium being charged for the chips that reach high clock speeds. Do Intel charge a premium for those types of chips?

This is where Intel would bin themselves and use different chips in higher model numbers. So technically.. yes, Intel do.

Ocuk charge because of time taken to test, guarantee it reaches a certain speed plus full warranty still and because ocuk want to make a profit. They don't have to do this, it is a business opportunity for them.

Yeah, the cooler won't make proper contact without either the IHS or modifying the bracket on the motherboard. You can also change the IHS to copper or silver but changing the TIM is usually more than enough

There's like 4 threads on the 8700k that could have been one thread. There's some really angry anti-delidders out there.
There could have been no threads!!! Those who want delid buy from us.

Those who don't fine buy retail or OEM stock from the site.
