You have lost me..
the x1950 pro will not cut it at 1600x1200 dont even suggest it does.
The 8800 offers more than twice the perfromance DX10 and the ability to run 16AA for 50 quid more than a 512mb x1950 pro,

The reason i didnt compare the 256mb version as that simple is not a widescreen gaming card.Period

Huh? I seem to remember that even the X800/6800 could cut it at 1600x1200, admittedly with detail turned down but it was more than possible.

So are you telling me that the extra 64MB VRAM makes all the difference between being a "widescreen gaming card" and not?

And why is it I can't see any difference between 4xAA and 16xAA, even though i've been gaming for 12 years?

[Edit] Anyway, i'm outta here, sorry to Dark_Angel and anyone else, it's gone really OT.

Sure, you might have to turn the odd detail off, but when blasting stuff on HL2, do you really stop to admire how well rendered their "pearly whites" are? ;)

always. otherwise we wouldnt be buying expensive cards and running at 16xAA ;)

Right shes in there, but i aint got a clue about the control panel, went to advanced 3D, and ive got a big list of all me AA/AF settings, clamp this etc... whats the best settings for a benchie, and man shes quiet, i cant hear her at all. :D

i know. first thing that struck me was how damn quiet my gtx is. very impresssive cooling on the cards. as easy said. set everything you can to application controlled. everything else turn it off or set it to performance mode:)

most importantly, enjoy it

I would have thought you just go with the driver defaults? if your gonna tweak then go for 'quality' settings over 'performance'?

Better still leave it all at stock, do some tests and post here, afterwards when u work out the tweaks you can post some updated results

When you bench and run 3D mark you have

AA off
AF off

Quality set to performance

This is what you do

buying expensive cards
Wave that eWilly boy!

Its not often you see someone shell out a small fortune on a graphics card and then make a post saying "Its not that much better than my old XYZ-Ultra"

I'm all for people spending their money in whatever way suits them, just it would be nice from time to time to get some reasonable feedback from users sometimes (i.e in perspective) and also why is there a trend from people owning 'uber' hardware to not see the benefits of bang-for-buck kit?

Whats my point? I don't have one but your always up for the crack! :D

Right just done a quick 05 and got 14,156 any good. :)
14,156 in 3DMark05/1280x1024/CPu at stock?

Guessing that would be about 16k if you overclocked your CPU?

[edit] I think the 'beast' was getting about 11k with a x1950Pro and overclocked e6600/3GHz.

[another edit] 3Dmark06 I'm more familar with, cmon u got a dual-core!

i would class expensive as anything over £100. im not talking about uber kit here. plain and simple - you don't spend the money unless your interested in image quality. if we werent, we'd all be running basic cards and turning everything down trying to get it going as fast as possible.

Does coolbits still work on the 8800s? I thought you had to resort to nTune / RivaTuner / ATI Tool.

Coolbits/NTune autodetect doesnt work on my card but I can manually increase and test it! i achieved 9362 with a 652mhz core and 1.8ghz memory so GTX speeds on the 320mb 8800gts :)
