8800GT Ramblings Thread

Hmm i went for the evga just in case i change the heatsink, as i know changing it does not void warranty with them. Decisions, decisions.

So anyone got one of these puppys in there righ yet? :D.

Also if oyur card broke and it's warranty was voided by taking the cooler off, cant simply putting the stock cooler back on be fine?

Got a Gainward.

Have you got it in yet Willy?

I aint got no 8800GT yet, its coming tomorrow if Citylink are working hard. I'm at college at the mo.

As long as you were careful taking it off/putting it on who would know

I guess I would need to use the same thermal compund and slap loads of it on as no doubt thats whats gonna be there under the cooler, too much of it, any idea what thermal compund they use on it? is it AS5?

Anyone else a little disappointed at the overclocking potential of the 8800GT, looks like getting >700Mhz is difficult.

I expected a lot more from the die shrink, or was I a bit over-optimistic?

Ummm surely you can get 700Mhz since there is supposed to be a 700Mhz OC Version, if yours cant get over 700Mhz I'm hoping its a bad overclocker

Buy the EVGA 8800 GT SSC (Super Super Clocked) Edition its 700/2000 out the box :D

More info from what I posted yesterday.

" The card features a stock cooler, it has the core and memory set to 700 and 2000 MHz respectively, same as Zotac's AMP! Edition but it takes the lead courtesy of the Shader clocks, 1750 MHz compared to the 1700 MHz of Zotac's card. Of course, this is just the first wave of 8800 GTs so we may see EVGA's record frequencies be topped and surpasses by the end of the year. "

I haven't got one, I read a review on Firingsquad, Guru3D and HardOCP and they got 694Mhz, 700Mhz and 680Mhz which I find quite low.

Same I find those low because of the fact there is an apparent OC one that is 700Mhz, now if thats maxing the core you manufacturers would not have it at 700Mhz, so I guess it may just be there card, at least that is what I am hoping.

EVGA have 4 cards in their GT range, nothing stopping them speed binning and cherry picking the best ones. Having said that, I had a Superclocked EVGA once and the stock version of the card overclocked higher.

I just rang and was told they're due in later - so here's hoping.

I could have changed the order to a BFG but I really do not want to pay any more, as they're overpriced already. Even an extra fiver hurts now.

Thx for the heads up! :)

Playing about with the clocks now a little bit, if i put the core/mem up to 690/990 then it throttles, so ive dropped back to 675/975 but put the shaders up to 1600 now and i seem to be getting better performance, but ill let you know shortly once the run of 3dmark finishes, the first section started 8/9fps higher though.

You planning on getting a new cooler for it?

I wonder if the 700Mhz OC GT from EVGA has not appeared yet because they are waiting on a better cooler for it? It may be the stock cooler that is limiting the overclocks.
