I like to game at 1920x1200 :(

I may consider sending mine back unopened for the weekly special 640mv @ 265

Or maybe it wont be that bad if I stick to 2-4x AA

I should be happy because its like 2x as fast as my X1800XT anyway :o

well if u wanna game at 1920x1200 with more of all the stuff on then the 640 wil help!

Which card do you reckon would be best for 1680 x 1050 with a bit of AA?

I'm tempted to get the 640MB version cos I can get one for £205 (moving to Canada next week) but a 576mhz 320MB one would only be about £160.

I'm tempted to save the £45 (or get an extra 1GB RAM with it for 3GB) but I know I'll kick myself if games like Bioshock and Crysis need the extra vRAM lol.

Karl

PRobs best with the 640mb then if the price is 205 in canada :D :D :D

Higgins, let us know how you get on! :D

lol just a restart got me upto 8690

Mate that confirms what myself and Loadsa got in our first scores, the cpu you have is running slightly faster than mines and that gives you that extra 100points :) so that is a good score, I am @ 9362 now but I know I can push higher ;) just dont wanna clock my card too heavily

Just got the BFG installed and popped oblivion on tried putting HDR and AA on in the Oblivion menu but it says you cannot have both on at the same time ? I thought with an 8800 it could do them both ?
ANyway it looks gorgeous at 1600x1050 I have a 24" and cant run 1900x1200 without choppiness not checked out fps yet.

Iput BF2 on at 1600x 1050 and put all the settings on high and it plays well. I am definalty cpu and memory limited as I only have an amd 3700 with 1gb ram

One really annoying thing with the double slot is that my stupid Epox board has a mic/audio/usb header in this space and the card would not fit with the lead on, I have had to take this off which means I cannot use my case front ports :(

YEah oblivion you need to force them using NVidias control panel, just change the game profile :D Keep it on multisampling too or you will suffer to large a performance hit ;)

is anyone else here running a GTS with an Athlon single core cpu? Bit disappointed in my 10500 3dMark05 score but don't know whether it's down to the dodgy nVidia Vista drivers, my underspecced psu or my cpu. Interested to see what others with similar spec but bigger psu get.

edit:- just looked on the ORB and 10500 seems ok for my cpu especially if Vista knocks a few hundred off your score. Looks like an upgrade to a Conroe is on the cards.......

YEah dual core cpu's make a huge difference in terms of the benchies, the processor is ultimately holding your cards performance back! :D

You can, you leave the AA off in the Oblivion Menu and turn it on in the Nvidia Control Panel, whack it on in there, and turn the SuperSampling on as well, looks ******* unbelievable. :D

it so does but kills ** framerate really! Multisampling allows it to run amazing :D

Hmm, im running it 2xAA/16xAF high quality textures, HDR on, and Supersampling on, runs great here, i did have to knock the AA down as it was quite a hit, was well choppy in places (as i was on 16x :D ), so i tried knocking the AA down as i wanted to keep the Supersampling on as it looks awesome, and 2xAA seems to be the sweet spot, runs perfect, tested with fraps and just dropping from 4xAA to 2xAA gives you 20fps back, runs sweet as now.

il try that now mate ;) supersampling owns :D

Loadsa now running at ** Oblivion settings ;) awesome stuff mate :D

The temps are superb, me and u are showing up exactly the same so far in terms of that, I still cant get ove rhow quiet it is either

I have a P5ND2Sli mobo, a P4 630 and a 6800GS with aftermarket Zalman cooler installed to sell. Part of me wants to buy the GTS and then recoup most of the cost through the sale of the older parts. The other part of me wants me to sell the parts and shove all the money together and just get a GTX.

Everytime I make a decision you guys respond and I have to have another think about things again. :p

JUst get the GTX then :D or you can wait until the R600 and see what that offers you, as well as NVidias quick reply to it!

Yup I've see a couple of cheapos at the 188 mark but best ocuk it for 200.

How about SLI'ing a couple of GTSs for the price of a GTX  [EDIT :FORGET THIS UNLESS YOUR INTO BENCHING AND NOT ACTUAL GAMING :D ]

[EDIT] : Having had a bit more of a read through this thread and rather liking loadsamoney pointing out that if you're buying specifically for DX10 then just be cautious.

@jrodga2k5 : EXCELLENT Thread and write up mate.

THanks mate first of all :D

Im looking forward to the first direct x 10 implementations tbh but why would I get the 320mb version in that case?

Well it offers me some of the best direct x 9 performance at a price I can afford, it has direct x 10 capablity when it is released so I wont really be left behind. The neighsayers so far have mentioned 320mb wont be enough, if thats the case why will nvidia realease 256mb parts which are much slower than the 8800gts counterparts?

Moving onto games in directx10 however, think about it for a second, its gonna be like extra effects you can turn on initially, like in Crysis! Im rpetty sure the directx10 renderer in this game will make it look a little bit better but I think the comparison initially will be hard pressed.

Later on in the year however the technology will be exploited more and then we may need something with some more vram, but really @ 1280x1024 i think we are safe in that region for a good while to come

IV just set the card @ 100% fan speed there, now its audible :D

Not too loud or anything tho thats the thing, its taken my idle tempt down to the 50degrees mark! I may keep it on 100% during gaming since its inaudible due to the sound :D

Right,

Installed my new BFG GTS OC yeaterday and decided to run 3d Mark 06 today just to see the score. I was expecting about 10k points with my rig (see sig) and was pretty upset with the score I got...

Correct score mate, your card at stock with a faster overclock in your cpu is very comparable to mines :D So go OC your card and break 10k if you really want to :D

Well Im on 650 core and 850 mem, for some reason the mem wont go 900!!, just freezes!

I did hit 670 on core but my pc froze, so I knocked her back 20.....ah well 100mhz on the core clock aint too bad.....

all cards have different limits, its just luck of the draw my friend! Im fine @ 652core and 900mem, will push it harder soon enough :D

not sure about that; I played yesterday Oblivion at 1280x1074 at highest settings with 16AF and not AA and my experience was worst than with my overclocked 7900GTO.

Most of the times I got more fraps with the 8800 but sometimes the fraps went down to about 10 and with short pauses due to the only 320MB.

With the 7900GTO (at gtx speeds) I never had any problems coming from indoors to outdoors enviroment with enemies waiting outside!!!

welll thats just strange Im playing oblivion at the settings mentioned by Loadsa earlier on in the thread and when I play it minus AA and ju8st 16xAF it runs so super smooth its unreal.

There must be something messed up somewhere as with just purely 16xAF on in oblivion @ 1280x1024 it should run nowhere near 10fps averaging around 60 outdoors id say
