8Pack super fast smash the rest i5 Skylake Overclocked, Discounted killer GAMING bundle.

Hi,

When trying to over clock I have followed the instructions to the letter from the post page on this thread. The profile will not load, so instead I configure manually. Unfortunately, I just get an error in post saying 'overclocking failed', then I have to reset the bios back to default.

Please can you help?

Many thanks

Hi guys
I recently purchased similar components to this bundle for a new PC builds through OCUK. It's been up and running perfectly for a while and today I've been trying to get the overclock working but am getting overclock failed upon restarting.

Spec is

Asus Z170S Sabertooth Mobo
i5 6400
Alphenfohn Brocken 2 cooler
8GB Ballistix Sport 2400 DDR4
Asus GeForce GTX 960 4GB
Corsair Builder series CX 600w PSU

I have a different bios from what I can see so don't think I can flash the same file as listed in the thread.

Any help is much appreciated.

Hi 8Pack

I bought this bundle the other week, added additional memory to 32Gb and its awesome.
It's my first venture into PC gaming so only got a GTX960 2Gb for now to see if I actually get into it all.

I installed Windows and then overclocked as instructed. This might be a silly question, but I assume that is only for first time installation. I have a habit of wiping and rebuilding my machines every couple of months. I have done so already without any issues so am I right in thinking there is no need to reverse the overclock to re-install windows?

Hi 8Pack

....am I right in thinking there is no need to reverse the overclock to re-install windows?

Correct.

The settings for your components are held in the low-level BIOS which sits underneath the Operating System (OS) e.g. Windows.

Only changes at the BIOS level should alter the overclock settings, and this is usually caused by any of the following:

  • Manually entering the BIOS on startup and adjusting it yourself
  • Running an overclocking tool at startup and/or through Windows
  • (manually) 'Flashing' the BIOS to a different version
  • Hard resetting the BIOS via onboard 'jumpers' and/or removing/draining the CMOS battery

The final (and more recently aware step) is outlined in 8Pack's initial instructions where it is feasible that intel et al, may request BIOS adjustments pushed out via Windows/OS Update.

TLDR: Reinstalling the OS shouldn't have any impact on the BIOS settings and therefore the Overclock as far as I'm aware.

Richy.

Just before I go ahead and flash this to my BIOS. Can anyone tell me if its possible to return to an ASUS BIOS?
Love the work of 8 Pack just would like to know if its an option if needed.

Sure yes u can flash what you want.....

Issues

Hi,

I've been bought this bundle by my wife for my birthday (brownie points to her!)

Got everything installed and running stock speeds, attempted to overclock it but no matter what I try when I save and exit the bios it just hangs and never reboots. I have to power cycle the machine at which point it says the over clocking failed.

I'm sure I must be missing something or not set something correctly but can't for the life of me find out what.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: upon rereading the thread I had the same problem as millermilla, when I tried to flash 050 BIOS windows crashed on bootup and would not load. Got 0230 BIOS from Asus website as the oldest BIOS they had so I assume I can't OC on this BIOS and I need to get 050 flashed correctly?

Scrap that, found an archived link for 0050 bios, got it flashed and installed your OC profile.

Now running 4.4ghz :D

Downside is my case isnt big enough for the Brocken cooler and running with the side off haha, never mind...

Had this bundle for a few months but just run this update tonight and now rocking @4.4 great stuff.

Can see a real difference when playing squad

No. Ofcourse not. This bios is only for Z170-E
OK.
Do you have any advice on how to get the OC working with this board?

I did see a video of a guy on youtube who had OC'd using the Sabertooth and he claimed he used the latest bios on the Asus website.
I tried with that and anything over the 102.5 the EZ Tuner gives me stops me from booting.

I'd appreciate any help as I'm really new to this and I've hit a brick wall so far.

Thanks

Yeah unless you go full tower i havent found a midi tower that fits the cooler. im running without the side on my case.

Upside is even with the cooler running at max RPM its still nigh on silent...

OK.

It's very easy follow the instructions in the OP.

Posting this here as well as in the main forum in-case anyone has had the same issue.

Got my bundle today and I'm having issues getting the system to post. I'm getting a solid DRAM led. It seems to only post with one individual ram stick installed, if I have both or the other one it doesn't post. Has anyone else had this problem?

I've removed the motherboard from the case, as I thought it could be something to do with the stand-offs.
