9800 GTX Reviews

I'll get one....just to have some new hardware to push :D
Already 'played' with the 8800GTS 512mb !!

Love my Ultra XXX though.

I want to thank ATI for the 2900 look what it has done to the competion. If that card would have been up to gtx standards then i am sure all these new cards by NV would have been 8900 series. When was the last time a single gpu from ATI was king? We need competion.

Well my 8800GTS arrived today, straight in at 750/2200 and silent.

That'll do me til propper next gen :D

Considering nvidia couldn't do it, its something that many reviews have noted so they obviously found it worth mentioning. It may not make a difference to overall performance but from a technical stand point its pretty impressive.

Is it a thing of they couldn't do it (technically) or simply couldn't be bothered? (ie they thought what is the point in designing a whole new pcb to fit two chips on when we can just slap together two modified pcbs and get the same performance)

This is a genuine question btw as to me the GX2 is nothing more than Nvidia playing smack down on ATI.

But on topic the 9800GTX really is a big dissapointment. The question is though will it actually replace the GTS512mb instead of fitting into the market just above it (will nvidia start pulling the GTS from production to increase sales of the GTX?)

Somebody already has a few posts back. I envy them for some reason, in terms of having something to play with. :(

Its the only reason I bought it, Ive had my 8800GT since launch and want something new to play with dammit!

The 9800gtx is cheap enough that I can justify upgrading to next gen in August and I dont need a new psu.

I would go for an 8800GTX anyday over a 9800GTX. It has 256MB more memory, 384 bit memory interface, and when clocked to Ultra, easily beats 9800GTX, saw it somewhere before and it's cheaper. Otherwise, just get an 8800GTS 512, but of course it's your money :o

I find it highly amusing how even when we knew the specs and 99% of the details about the card etc you STILL had the select uninformed people with no common sense saying: "we can't guess at performance" and "don't judge the card till it's out" blah blah blah. We saw it a mile off!

Indeed we did.

I love it that everyone slags Nvidia off for bringing out new cards that are old tech. If you feel this strongly about it DONT buy another Nvidia card again. The fact is people still continue to buy them hence why they can do what ever they like. :D

So people aren't allowed to comment on it or give opinions? They should "never buy Nvidia again" because they don't like their recent strategy? What a stupid post, on so many levels.

Yes its good to give a opinion but when you have to here that opinion over and over again it get boring.

It's a forum, that's what happens. If you don't want to see the same point repeated 1'000 times then i'm not sure what you were expecting when you joined. :p

Not even worth discussing this as I will have to repeat it a 1000 times ;)

It's now become just as boring deleting the "9800 gtx is only a 8800 gts" posts as it is seeing them all the time:p
