9800GTX to get a new performance driver

question will this driver actually even surface? or was that site making a mistake and was actually referring to a new card, the 9800gtx+ offering the additional performance.

the g80 and g92 being as fast as it already is i just cant see it getting any quicker at all on a driver front.

if anything the new driver that touts more speed is probably got the gt200 series cards.

The new driver is mentioned again in regards to the new article on the "new" cards! So yes it would appear exist!

Good news for G92 owners but not the 1st time NV have held back performance to spoil ATI's launch party then suddenly they give existing owners more performance which they just found............. yeah right:(:(

You're too young to remember the Detonator 20.xx and the Detonator 40.xx release then...

They upped the performance of cards that were released then by around 20-30% in virtually all areas - with no decrease in IQ.

Back then people were greatful, now people are cynical....But thats not Nvidia's problem\fault. Thats the fault of retards on the internet dumbing everything down talking too much pants (I'm not quoting you for being a retard! I'm quoting because it sounds like you don't believe it)

i know its not aimed at me but thought id reply anyway. i do find it quite hard to believe that g92 has such a high reserve potential that is untapped. i really cant see a 9800gtx or 8800gt or other g92 variant card shooting up by 20%+ performance across the board. could it be that its actually sli performance thats increased?
not sure if anyone else follows what i mean on this. but maybe they dod have some untapped potential to get 4-6% more speed but i doubt anyone wouldnt be that skeptical of such a large speed increase from these cards.

Its simple to me, when a new card comes out, it gets regular driver updates that boost its performance, the 9800 GTX has only had one single driver that has given it a bit of a boost, those drivers being the 175.16's, so now its getting a second driver, so its obviously going to get another performance boost isn't it, as new cards do not get to their full potential by only having one single driver released, it happens over time, and by them getting more than a single driver, and getting them at regular intervals.

The GT200's have had 1x driver released, now should we take that, as thats it, its one driver is now out, so its full potential has now been reached, so whenever they get around to releasing another driver for them, it will just be bug/game fixes, no more performance, as they are now at their peak from their first driver, i doubt it, i bet another driver will give it another performance boost.:)

Remember back then the Cards clocks were far lower and DDR1 was normal, so 20-30% gain was a few 10's of MHZ not like now.

Im old enough to remember the Detonators in their teens probably 16.'s or 18.'s not sure.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOL your one to talk, when you got the 2900xt you were always saying how new drivers will guarantee to increase its performance. you used to spread that all over this forum, and now look at you

There's a difference between what seems like a consistent effort to improve and optimize display drivers versus an "update" to the driver promising a very questionable performance upgrade during a very questionable period of time.

Look at the 3870x2, was it as good as it is today on its very first driver, nope, its taken more than a single driver, at regualr intervals to get it to where its at now. :)

The 9800 GTX will get another performance boost from its second driver, its performance would have been going up incrementaly if they had been doing regular drivers over the past few months, but seen as they havn't, those incremental performance boosts have been rolled into one single driver, that they are now going to release.

Would like to believe - but just wonder if Fud has confused the + as a new driver rather than the , alleged, new 9800GTX+ .

Wonder if it will be possible to mod a 9800GTx to a GTX+ ?

The 9800gtx is basically a 8800gts so we should see how many driver updates the gts has had. I believe it will be more than 1 set. To me nvidia should have been releasing drivers that up the performance of a gts so in turn the same for the 9800gtx before it was even launched i don't think theres a lot more to come from the gtx.
