980ti or wait for pascal???

To be honest, the amount of people on here, that just wait and wait and wait is ridiculous.

If you had bought a 980Ti at release, then you wouldn't really have to bother thinking about graphics cards, until X80Ti is released.
(Approx, 18 months from release of 980Ti.) 18 months of top class performance.

So now, you are caught in between a rock and a hard place, deciding whether to buy a 980Ti now, or wait for mid range Pascal.

But obviously, mid range Pascal is not the true successor to the 980Ti.

I know we all have different budgets, but just just upgrade like for like every series, and put a little bit more money to it each time.

Take myself as an example :

Purchased Asus Strix 980Ti > August 2015 For £600.00

Sell in 18 months time, for at least £300.00

Put another £300.00 to it to purchase X80Ti.

And on it goes.....

I think very few are thinking this. Please don't turn it into a full blown drama. I see more 970 owners or lower looking at upgrade then 980Ti owners.

Well, they are my thoughts, anway ;)

I dunno how much a 980Ti will be worth, when I sell it for x80Ti, but personally
I don't really care.

All I am trying to say is, just buy the best card you can afford, and enjoy, stop playing the waiting game.

I drive a 4x4.
I don't drive off road.
I don't drive it for 8 hours a day.
I regularly go close to a month without driving it at all.
When it's 3 years old, I'll probably trade in for another one... That does another few mph, mpg, slightly less emissions, slightly more torque... None of which I'll really "notice"...

An ode to having things that I enjoy.

Fixed that for you :)

Older SLI/CF is where it's at for me. 290x CF cost me less than a new 970, and gives me 980ti/Titan X performance in some titles.

It's a shame TBH.

It is.

I've rebuilt my rig with a motherboard and CPU that can handle SLI at full x16 bandwidth, with maximum space between slots (1 and 3) so that I can get decent temps on air, and the lanes to maintain full m.2 bandwidth... SLI is the reason I went the extra mile for a 5930k over the 5820k.

I put a fair bit of planning into it, but no doubt I'll end up sticking with one card because the SLI support seems to be getting less than an afterthought these days. It's a pity, because SLI must surely be a great way to ensure older gen cards still sell at reasonable prices?

I would be more than happy to pick up a second 980ti at a reduced price when Pascal comes out, but support would have to improve a lot before it could be considered worth it.

So, I've just read this entire thread and its been quite amusing.

For the OP, wait till Tuesday 5pm. If the 1080/1070 doesn't get a release date before June, you got to buy what's here now.

I remember when I bought a Geforce FX 5900 Ultra for Doom3 - then the 6800 GT came out and I bought it less than a year later. The 5900 Ultra sold on ebay for just under the price of a 6800 GT. I got my gaming, I got my upgrade, I saved my wallet.

Funny thing is, Doom 4 is out in May, and I'm buying whatever the hell is available the week before as I currently have an iGPU. There, no waiting, just timing. We cant control time as much as we like, and when we try, we just end up frustrated. I'll most likely end up getting a GTX 970 but if a 1070 comes along 3 months later at a similar price and 30% more fps in games, I really wont care and wont upgrade. Same can be said about your 980ti vs 1080 - do you really care about any % gain when the 980ti can do what you want now? Beware of diminishing returns and all that.
