980ti or wait for pascal???

I take it this is not impressive a leap? Lack of competition breeds lack of progress and lowering of final product. You get complacent and before you know it you’re looking at something no one is really interesting in.

980 was the full chip, as was 960. Of course Titan too :p

970 proved again that there are/can be problems with salvage parts, but you can buy mid-range and still get "the full chip".

LOL you know what I mean...:p

A Full Fat GM204 ... yes on the 980 ... but I class that GPU as mid range not the full high-end part as with the GM200.. Also only the Titan X really has the fully enabled cores, the 980Ti is still cut down.. but still the high-end chip.

There is nothing wrong with the 960,970 or 980 they are just aimed at a different market segment that doesn't appeal to me for my systems, but would happily buy them for my family or friends that don't need top end cards or would never see the benefits of a high-end card.

Evga 980 ti ordered. Need the power now as I should be getting a vive any day now and my 770 won't cut it. Even if I lose 100 in 6 months and 200 in a year, I can't wait that long for something to change. Just wish I had upgraded earlier!

Glad you made a decision....

As for wishing you had upgraded earlier, we have all been there and done it ;)

At least you can forget about graphics cards until Pascal Ti comes out, then have a look, and compare price to performance then.

Then make a decision either way, if its worth it or not.

Enjoy your new card.

You do not know this.

We will only find out when mid range Pascal cards are released, at what cost and how much performance gain it would provide over a 980Ti.

I paid £400 for my 980Ti so if Pascal mid range costs this and provides a good (15-20%+) performance increase in a few months then you are correct. Doubt it though

The people who will lose a lot of money are the ones waiting for mid range Pascal/Polaris !!!

They will have to pay for the new tech and then 6 months later big Pascal/Polaris will mean they will want to upgrade again.

It will be a bit like paying for a brand new GTX 980 only to find 6 months later they want to upgrade to a GTX 980 Ti.

Better to get a GTX 980 Ti now, enjoy your gaming and then get big Pascal/Polaris when it finally turns up.

man this is what ive been trying to say when everone says wait. Just get the dam 980Ti and enjoy. the mid -high end cards most likley will only match or just only beat a 980Ti but you have to wait for these cards to release first then to see reviews such as benches to make sure they are faster and worth the money and i guarnetee the high end cards will only be the ones everyone will be looking at and these will most likley be high end £4xx so saving quids but you waited for ages for this when you could have been gaming already.

Loving the blatent self justification in this thread! To each their own :)

There's only one thing for certain, GPUs depreciate fast. Pascal will be old news before we know it!

Tbh people with 2 or more Titan x's do not need to upgrade to pascal as the 12gb of ram is more than enough and 2 cards is the sweet spot. I have see some games hitting 5-6gb on 1440p however which rules out ti's longevity.

OP I got a Dell G sync monitor to tide me over with my 970. It's doing wonders, all my games run super smooth at 1440p with everything maxed out.

Highly depending on which games I beg to differ. I come from that setup and the 970 was certainly not up to the task at 1440p and nowhere near maxing things out! I bought a Ti classy specifically for the job and I wouldn't go for less if you like decent frame rates.

What games were you playing?

Got my 780TI end of 2013, I'd like to grab a 980TI if the new cards are still a while away.

Been looking at the EVGA Hybrid, with the cashback deal and selling on the Division it's not too bad on cost.

Will probably bite the bullet!

Hmmm apart from the Beta the rest should work flawlessly with G Sync with everything maxed, although no need to max AA at that resolution
