We have discovered (as some of you have) an installation problem with a limited number of EA gamers who downloaded Battlefield 2: Special Forces through EA's Downloader. If your account is affected, you will see the following error when you try to install the expansion pack:
“BF2CDKeyCheck.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.”
We apologize for this problem and are working quickly to resolve it. We will contact the gamers affected by this issue via email later today with a solution.
Guess what? Lucky me I got the following email

3 gigs? wtf??? i think a hell of a lot of people aren't going to have anywhere near that on their c:\ - including me!

There is a way around this...
You can do it the easy way (if you trust me!) or you can do it the hard way.
The easy way is to put your CD key into the registry directly and then run the following file to encrypt it: http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~chrismox/BF2CDKeyCheck.zip
If you're suspicious of downloading random files from me, do it the hard way:
1 - Run patch 1.03 (doesn't matter that it's already installed)
2 - Select a language from the patch installer and click "Next"
3 - Click your Taskbar Start button and select "Run"
4 - Type "%temp%" without the quotes
5 - When the explorer windows pops up, press F3 to open up a search and search for "bf2*" without the quotes
6 - The file "BF2CDKeyCheck that is found is the one you want - run it and it will encrypt your CD key

hey played last night for the first time, the new comp runs it well .. at last. I didn't get any kills on the first game . 2nd game I was 2nd on the leader board woot go me LOL... and as with all games tanks are my nemisis

Who has patched up.
Am not getting my copy till after 2pm so i will wait tillafter i instal that as apparently even if you patch first you still have to patch after SF is installed.
Anyways whats the cue.

i simply cannot believe you need 3gigs on the c:\
EA are a bunch of morons. Do i bother to run the gauntlet that is 'Partition Magic' to try and get more space...not sure if i can be arsed to be honest!

Vanilla BF2 needs patching to play on patched servers but if you buy and install SF after instaling patch you still need to patch again.
As i said personally i think i will wait till this afternoon get SF then patch after that. I will of course post my success or failure.
I really hope this don't Norzz my BF2 up i am Blatantly addicted to this game.
