A battlefield2 thread

Hi,

well, I've had this game for around a month now, only a few hours play a week, but I want to know why I dont hear anyone over VOIP in game? Specifically the ingame VOIP? Surely there are some people that use it? I never hear anyone speaking, I have checked all of my settings and they seem OK, all enabled etc.

In game, if i pull up the squad list, my name doesnt have the speaker icon next to it.

I dont usually like using a mic, but I would like to hear people as its a frantic game and typing will only lead to getting killed (as usual).

Am I missing something?

PS, I am also the proud owner of 2 purple hearts , great huh :p

God I suck at FPS' but I dont like most other types of games.

Me and siders use Teamspeak running behind the game, easier and clearer than the ingame one.

Depends what server your on to if it is used, probably had 20 things said to me in 85 hours of play :p

Thanks, the probs with TS is that I usually just go it alone on a server, and join a squad on there allready, so the ingame VOIP would be more useful I guess.

Oh well, guess I can live without it, just a bit odd I've not heard anything, surely there is some chitchat going on on a team

EA UK servers are pretty reliable and work all the time. Never had roblems with thema nd the crowd are pretty good too. Lots of pros. Played Balzin UK once. He is good but i think he has a lot of time on his hands as i think many are better than him.

I got 2 heli cockpit kills today with my .50
I usually play with the L96 because i find it easier but decided to have a go with the Barrett because loads of times i've been almost face to face with heli pilots but not had the gun for the job.

I really find it hard to beleive that ANYONE can advocate the use of EA UK servers. They are all full of teamkilling, spawn camping kids who wouldnt know teamwork if it jumped up and bit them. If you think the EA crowd are 'pretty good' may i suggest you try a 50k server. It may open your eyes somewhat.

Edit: Blazin.Uk is not a pro...we would ALL be better at the game than him if we played the amount of time everyday he does. His K/D ratio is appalling, as is his accuracy. The only reason he has so many points is because he is a medic wh0re. One of those guys who'll revive you in front of a tank without evening thinking about it, then when you die, he'll do the same thing again, and again purely for the points. And personally, i think thats quite sad that he feels the need to play the game for points instead of the reason the majority of people play games, to have fun. It must really hack him off when someone beats him to a revive.

It depends what time you play though. From about 9am to 9pm the servers are full of kids messing about. That's why I normally try and play after 9pm.

I'd say Tactical Gamer US servers have the best community but it may not be to everyone's liking as they are very tight with rules, there's no place for a lone sniper there or a base raping type.

50k servers are decent and always have admins at certain times to kick the troublemakers out, but in terms of teamwork I didn't find it that good or maybe I wasn't playing at the right time or expected too much. Also had a strange run in with some admin, at one point a guy rolled into our UCB in a jeep killed everyone with .50cal gun and pinched a helicopter and apparently that wasn't a "base raping" incident so nothing was done. Then in another instance I went behind enemy lines to take out some assets, killed some guy was shooting at me and I got kicked for a minute for base raping. I can understand they are only human and make minstakes but I found the heli incident a bit strange.

Sorry to butt-in fellas.

I've decided against being a fulltime medic and have taken the Special Ops route. Mainly because im having a lot more luck with the gun and i got my first badge last night playing as one. :D

Anyway, coming up to my first unlock, is the Special Ops gun worth it, or should i go with something else?

I certainly found the gun an improvement over M4 but some people don't like the unlock because of the lack of laser sight.

Im not too fussed about the laser sight actually, i like the Chinese Special Forces gun more than the US one anyway and from memory that doesnt have one.

*** exactly is the diff between a laser sight and a fixed sight? apart from the fancy doo dah effect i can still shoot and miss the same:)

Well in a way provides better visibility as with ironsights you see less on the bottom of the screen as with laser you've just a circle on the screen and a dot in a middle. Still you're only using ironsights when shooting someone so it doesn't matter much.

The G36C is one of the best guns in BF2 imo, very good all rounder, good stopping power, good up close, little recoil, great at range and you get C4 to back it up :D.

Far-Away Servers

Is it always the case that the further away the server is based, the higher the ping is going to be?

Thing is - I'm gonna be moving to China shortly, and I don't know if I'll be able to continue to play with my mates back in UK.

I've seen there are a couple of servers listed as their country being "Satellite Provider" - does this mean the location doesn't matter, or is this just wishful thinking?

Satellite isp doesnt give great ping unfortunately and they tend to use a slow uplink to save money which makes it as slow as a modem.

Pings across asia are not great, Ive played someone in Italy before now and it was still doable but China is asking too much. China to Japan to USA to UK again would most likely be quicker but that has to be 300 ping at least

As said, better visibility. If someone goes prone on you when you have an ironsight they usually get hidden by it. Usually resulting in your death as you move it down to shoot at them. With a red dot sight, you can still see them and react that bit quicker.

Thanks, Geiger - pretty much what I'd feared.

I'll just have to improve my Chinese :)

Was just playing on a 50k server and what a bunch of sapwn campers on both teams, sitting in amrour and just camping the enemy spawn locations with no intrest of capturing the flags. Totaly peeves me off as im more of an objective type player, i always go for flags not kills and when your the only person taking the back flags (which take longer to cap) its almost a suicide mission.
