Why do I keep getting absolutely murdered on the SF maps?
Just played on one server where I was doing OK, then all the high ranks jumped onto one team and completely pummelled us SF noobs :(
Thinl I'll abandon SF and stick to vanilla from now on

find a team mate that is doing well on the scoreboard and stick close to him, I know its been said before but if you move around in numbers and watch the uav, you will kick serious booty on most public servers simply due to weight of numbers at that given time and superior fire power.

If you fancy playing commander a simple tip , when you lay down rt, and have a spare supply drop, then place it right on your rt, target, no matter if they need it or not you nearly always get 2 or 3 guys who will home in on the supply box like flies around................. :D

and then they get the real supplies, I mean suprise muhahahaha :D

Following the top player round is a good idea, and you can learn a lot of stuff.

Only problem is that if you are playing on a map with jets you can bet your house that the top guy on your team is a jet whore. :D

Use the rank system to find a squad to join rather than go for the highest scorer. The highest scorer will either be Air or Armour so you are really very little use to him. Unless he is tanking of course then go engineer get an APC and stick to him like glue.
Btw ALL. If you are going to Armour then go Engineer, i am sick of seeing Armour with other classes in them it's Wrong. As soon as you meet two enemy armour that are both Engi's or crated up you are history and no good to the team. Go engi and repair each other, simple as.
The squad to join is a well balanced squad with a high ranking Squad leader. I am a captain at the moment but am hardly ever in armour or air these days. I prefer to form a good squad and get down and dirty. As a noob you should be a medic as this is the best class for noobs to BF2. You are expected to stay Back and heal and drop meddy packs like it's going out of fashion. The bonus is if you die a squad member can use your kit to revive you and all carrys on. You get 2 points for a revive and 1 for a heal and 1 for a kill so your points will soon mount up and will unlock the excellent 2nd medic unlock. Also when you revive someone there death does not count against them. The killer gets his kill noted but the death is not. :)
Lastly don't be afraid to switch class when needed. Go support if ammo is needed or AT if your squad is pinned down by a tank. Another good switch when pinned down is to go Engi. Just run out amonst the enemy armour dumping mines down. You will die of course but within seconds of your death so will they.
I love mines. :D

Am I right in saying the SF medic unlock is better then the BF2 medic unlock?

Yup the G36E is awesome, so much so that I play medic for normal infantry combat duties rather than assault.

You have it already don't you

Yer friend unlocked few days ago but I dont seem as good with it as the first unlock.

It takes some getting used to, but I find it massively effective at long range, I could never get the hang of the L 85A1, it just seems lightweight and inaccurate.

In single round mode if found it very accurate

On another note, in SF, does anyone actually use tear gas?

It can be quite effective on maps like Iron Gator inside the ship, or on Warlord at the TV Station firing in to the flag bit to see if anyone's defending it.

I can't say I use it an awful lot due to pretty much always playing as medic though.

More importantly, reviving means that your team does not lose a point from the ticker.

True to extent, but it depends on where the other tanks are at in your team. If they're away elsewhere you won't be much use to anyone as an engineer. In saying that I do go as engineer pretty often just in case.
It's just that I often go as support now if in a tank - on a busy map like Karkand your team mates tend to stay close to you, and they're going to be constantly firing at the enemy to try and move forward. As support you are continually resupplying them which is particularly important for your anti-tank team mates who go through rockets so quickly.
A couple of games in particular I heard the resupply 'jingle' almost constantly while in a tank because my teammates kept getting resupplied. It felt good being of use to so many players, and at the end of the game I came first and had more team points than combat points :)

But if I'm going for a tank I wouldn't be anything other than support or engineer. You're no use to anyone as any other class, even medic because you never heal people quickly enough.

U can be support without taking up use of a tank. Being an engineer can help get the tank back into battle after taking a few shots, whereas a support guy would either get blown up or not be helping anyone except maybe himself being bullet proof. IMO.

Learn how to play engineer and its a fun class with potential to get a high combat score.

Flyings easy especially just using the mouse and keyboard. Takes time and practice but its easy when you get it. The only hard bit is dodging ground to air missiles due to their lockon range.

I can't fly on this game to save my life. Okay I am okay with the helicopters, and I can keep the Jet in the air for a little while but I can't go where I want to and I certainly can't kill anything. Infact I haven't even tried, but I'm sure if I did I'd crash quicker than usual.

I don't use tanks at all tbh, for me they just seem to be a guarantee death. The turret seems to take ages to turn (although realistic probably) so any anti-tank units behindme kill me easily, and I just can't shoot enemies quick enough.

The AA sites range suck , they reduced them a few patches back. Can't even lock on to a helicopter hovering over one tip of wake island from the site on the other side. Used to be able to , but not anymore.

No threat to jets at all , can cannon em before they lock on and if they do flares , then afterburner till you are out of range and helicopters just drop flares then run off and repair.

Mobile aa is better though :).

I know it's been out for ages, but I have just got into BF2 over the last couple of weeks and must say I'm hooked. I am a bit of a n00b though and could do with any good advice/pointers that people can give me. I'm getting very competent flying choppers now, but I can never work out why I can never shoot when I'm flying one - are there different types and the ones I'm flying just can't shoot

Sorry for the n00by questions - we were all there once :o

just make sure your not too high and tilt forward slightly, aim, fire and recover not too hard. Been trying out on a small 16 server soloing in a chopper, great fun swapping seats and using TV to take out other choppers and vehicles just like i saw in the vid.
