4 months!!! I think you're on the right path though, bite the bullet and do it slowly over the coming weekend.
Keep your work area dust and static free - I won't stand within five feet without an anti-static strap, but others here are less paranoid. Keep any kids and pets out of the way, and make sure you'll have a few hours to meddle around. You can always do it over the two or three evenings and take your time.
mount your psu, drives, etc. assemble the mobo outside of the case so you have plenty of room to work.
If you really want to, assemble the whole thing outside of the case so you can test it before you put it into the case, but its up to you really.
Check to see if you have to fit standoffs in the case, I think you might have to with the TT, but the manual (or just looking in should tell you).
Ideally, if you have another machine to get online with during the build process and post up an issues you encounter - someone here will help you out. Posting piccies of any snags is usually a bonus.
Also, make sure you have all the bits you need, its a shame to unwrap everything only to find your missing your arctic silver or something.

best of luck, mate :)

meh, antistatic strap, whats that :p, ive never used one and dont intend to...... ever, ive never had problems :o

give it a go, you'll appreciate your own work far more, i know i do.

if you have any probs, jump on ocuk and we'll be more than helpfull

Cheers for the link, marse.going to print some of it now,how much of the high grade thermal paste would I used, going to try tonight, jos

If you check the manufacturers' site you should find it ie for Artic Silver http://www.arcticsilver.com/as5.htm and check under 'support' - instructions.

Other manufacturers should provide similar info.

You should have manuals at least on CD ie the Motherboard.
If you haven't already done so I suggest printing them out and read through them carefully, at least once, before you start.
Then follow the sequence one step at a time per the manual.

I would recommend starting in the morning when you are fresh and take your time - don't rush it.

Good Luck.

You're better taking your time and doing it right.

Whereabouts in Donegal are you?

Update on my progress - Ive got the CPU installed with cooler Assembled the motherboard onto the case tray and have installed 2 harddrives also the dvd writer and rom. I put the rom on master and the writer on slave. Is this right? Also installed the power supply. On the case there are 2 power supply cables coming out of the front-are both meant to be given power?
Is there anything to watch out for in connecting the leads to the motherboard? When thats done will I go ahead and switch on and install XP? Is there much to be done with the BIOS settings?
I'm almost there and am getting such satisfaction from the experience. Thanks for all the help and support -keep it coming!

Ah you're not too far away from me. I was in Donegal a few times over the summer.

Yeah you should be ok.

It doesn't really matter which DVD drive you set as master.

If both cables coming from the front have the case have molex connectors (rectangular 4 pin connectors) then connect both.

Follow the instructions in the motherboard manual for connecting the leads to it. The DS3 range has a pretty good manual.

The only things you'll have to change in BIOS are the Boot Device order (CDROM as first and Hard Disk as second), and the advertised memory speed. Tho you can worry about memory speed after you have finished installing Windows.

Probably won't even need to enter the bios, on a brand new HD it'll boot straight from the OS CD, in my experience anyway.

Nice going btw mate! You'll be well chuffed when you fire it up and get the software installed.

We've been in Portrush over the Summer and, to be honest, I could do with a good blast of Portrush wind at the moment to keep me alert!! but how do I find out the memory speed? Itll probably be Sunday before I can make any more headway but Ill keep you , and everyone, posted!! This is a terrific site -its great to have backup

Is it the Geil PC6400 Ultra kit?

It's pretty much only a case of setting the Memory Multiplier to x3.0 to set it to 800mhz, the Memory Overvoltage to +0.3v for the Geils (if that's what it is) recommended 2.1v, and then setting the first four memory timings to 4-4-4-12 respectively.

But you can worry about that after you have everything set up as the memory will run fine on its pre-set settings.

Yea it is the 6400 ultra kit. btw just forgot to say im wired to the radiator to eliminate static-copper wiring from radiator to wrist
Cheers Jos
