Some things are just less likely to happen I'm afraid

. Nvidia have not been asleep like intel and push their tech forward for non-gaming uses.
What AMD will probably do is to play at their GPU strengths. These GPU's are not going to be easy to compare like-for-like as in the past (RT, DLSS...) so if AMD can be outstanding in some areas that'll be great. The chances of AMD leapfrogging NV consider the entire package and feature set is unlikely. Tickling the fancies of a lot of AMD customers tho, for sure.
G-sync vs freesync seem little talked about atm. I was thinking "oh, well, I can see what AMD bring out" only then to realise any GPU I buy needs to be compatible with g-sync. So, buying an AMD GPU anytime soon for me is a no-go.
Agree totally, having owned both AMD and Nvidia over the last... (lets not openly discuss the time its...too many years ), I genuinely always found the Nvidia products of higher physical quality, and in fact until they literally both went pop in the same week (After YEARS of abuse) 2 x 780Ti's I bought on release day are my fondest GPU memories.
However, as much as I like Nvidia's products I will never be that zealot Green slave that I see many getting behind on the internet because Nvidia are as shady, and recently outright lied and full of it in general with pretty power point shows and slides with well worded marketing and this isn't exclusive to Ampere's launch.
Nvidia were smart years ago, they said to the world "Well you can own a Nissan and it's as fast as our product but wouldn't you rather pay more and own a Ferrari, same speed but you know it's a Ferrari?"
And this is the mindset now, even if the AMD card is as fast or even slightly faster than a 3080, people wont purchase it unless it's 100-150 cheaper than the Nvidia card it outperforms, I mean think about it? Crazy right?
And to people who bought G-sync.... Well that again was you just buying into Nvidia's eco system, you are the sort of person that thinks Steve Jobs brought innovation and progressed the rate of technological advancement rather that stifle it and show the world we now have that slight iteration for profit > Innovation. The days of man just being able to push better technological advancements are long gone thanks to people like Steve Jobs, as without the billions now required you got no bueno! And The only place to get that now is our corporate overlords who's only interest is bottom line, and Nvidia is the prime example of this eco system and people not only want to lap this closed loop up they viciously protect it, the parallels to a cult are uncanny! Again this is just years of Nvidia's genius marketing.
I was smart with my monitor upgrade I bought a Free Syn with G-Sync compatible, you would have to be pretty daft not to in this age! Nvidia caved and now offers this support because at some point there was going to be a Judge in a court someplace that said "This is anti competition", you think Nvidia offers G-sync compatibility out of the goodness of its own heart? (See corporate overlords rules above).
My point is to this long rant, the amount of miss information and bull$h1t on these forums is quite entertaining to read for sure.
But anyone who is only AMD or Nvidia is living in crazy town,
AMD or Nvidia dont care about you they care about your wallet and that's how we should all be approaching these purchases in return, what's best for the money? Take your heart out of it because the Ferrari this time is only a badge at this point a bit like their F1 team currently, all the money all the prestige but neither of those things get you a win, in fact it was only clever marketing that got them at the front due to cheating engine specs until they got called out and the performance just isn't there now.... I want to draw a parallel here but i'm sure you can do that for me!
