A bright future for MMOs...Is this the death of WoW?

I stopped playing WOW about a year ago it bored me, but was watching the boss playing it last night. She was playing AV battleground and I must say that the game did look great. There was that much happening on the screen and all the movement was that fluid that it became very clear as to why so many people like or liked it.

The only way another MMO is going to top WOW is if it can match WOWs fluidity and improve on the gameplay.

Omg chris, all your comment are nothing but fail tbh.

Wow has 11 million subscribers, even if it loses 3 million to these two mmo's (unlikely) that is absolutely nothing. The only thing that can take wow's crown is wow 2 tbh.

who cares if those games are WoW killers?

The only way itll end WoW is if it appeals to the kiddies that play WoW in the first place and I hope it doesnt!!!

Leave WoW to the kids and let Darkfall or/and Spellborn appeal to the Men.

Here here, I want to pounce on someone from the shadows and see them run and then loooot them. CANT WAIT!

Darkfall screenshots look awful imo. People were saying the same about AOC.

To beat wow you need good gameplay, nice looking but playable on a low end machine, and some magic. Sadly thats why all mmo's have failed since wow game out. Exception being LOTRO. Too many devs looking to coin it in rather than produce a decent game, innovation is dead in the gaming industry these days.

This happens with every single new MMO that comes along, the blind adulation and raised expectations and it usually all ends in tears and tantrums. The same old cycle of MMO gaming life, does anyone ever learn a thing. I do not play WOW (2 months at release) but overall it still probably the best of the bunch. Regarding these new games it is wait and see which is advisable otherwise many will be making fools of themselves...... again.

So, we have two MASSIVE games on the way. Darkfall and The Chronicles of Spellborn are just looking fantastic and i actually think this could be the death of WoW. How does WoW stand a chance against such titles? They offer a LOT more than WoW...More fun, better graphics, and they just look like they have more depth to them.

Bye bye WoW, these two biggies will crush you.

What do you guys think? Will WoW manage to keep any subscribers?

11m people aren't going to give up their characters for two brand new games.

WoW will live on.

Considering the game features of Darkfall, its an odd claim to suggest that it isnt innovative. Its actually more innovative than any MMO thats been released for over a decade.

In my experience, the most innovative games are usually the niche ones, as the majority of people dont truly want innovation. I think that a decent portion of people who try the innovative features of Darkfall will run a mile at them. Ironically UO has FAR more innovative features than most modern MMOs (including WoW), Darkfall apparently seems to be trying to be more like UO which can only be a good thing. Not having uber graphics is fine with me, most of the greatest games on my hard drive dont have top notch graphics. Gameplay > graphics for me , every single time. No exceptions.

I think the only upcoming MMO that may grab the attention of a significant number of WoW players will be Aion, which has done very well on its recent korean release and looks very good overall. Not to say Darkfall and Spellborn won't be popular but i don't think they'll pull away many players from WoW. I don't know about spellborn but in my opinion darkfall isn't really aimed at WoW type players.

Blizzard are apparently making a "next-gen" (my blood runs cold with that word next gen) MMO. As we speak. :p

Personally i'm waiting on Aion, which I think will be bigger than the two mentioned in the first post. It's already broken the record for beta players in Korea.

Money. You need bags of it. Gone are the days when a development team of 10 can produce a game.

People keep harping on about how good UO was, people will always say yeah bring out a game like UO and i'll come back. But when it actually comes to it, they dont and wont. 11 million (?) players are in a comfort zone and arn't going to ditch it for anything unless its quite frankly a game thats out of this world, and Darkfall isnt by any stretch an out of this world game.

A game developer doesn't have to try and draw on WoW's subscriber base to survive, or do really well. Eve, EQ1 + 2, LOTRO, Warhammer, AoC, and at least a dozen or so more, plus people who aren't even playing an MMO right now, or people who have never played one before. There's lots of people out there, including some of WoW''s pool (WoW does not have 11 million perfectly happy players) to draw on.

WoW is not the perfect MMO, and plenty of people know it. WoW is doing well because, lets face it, the competition ranges from average to rubbish. You don't need to make an $80m dollar game, you need to concentrate on the gameplay. Too many game companies think graphics and vastness of world = win.

I'd take a guess that 99% of those have played or tried wow, with the exception of EVE. The whole argument here is based around another mmo coming along to kill wow off, I really doubt we can have 2 mmo's around the size of wow in sub numbers.
