A chav too far

Well it prompted a response from the OP that clarified that he didn't know 100% that they'd done it until he'd started breaking their stuff.

(Just to clarify I'm in full support of the OP, just playing devils advocate :p)

True, I was probably a bit quick of the mark. I've just seen many topics on here disintegrate as a result of comments inferring that someone was lying, largely due to a poster not being as precise as they could have been. Normally because they did not realise the relevance of a particular statement.

OcUK is famous for ripping threads apart with pedantic questions and nitpicking. It's our way :p

Edit: I've changed your colour to white as it's a pain to read back when quoted, I don't know why you've chosen black on navy blue.

Yeah, sorry about that. Did a copy and paste into word to spell check and it messed the colours up.

Im sick of this wishy washy animal rights tree hugging crap. The two lads may only have been trying to scare the swans away from the lines. I also doubt they would have killed a swan by hitting it with a stone- how do you know they did? Is it not possible that your two witnesses only saw them throw the stones?

You damaged there property, and label them as chavs without even knowing them.

By your own logic- it would be perfectly reasonable for someone (acting on their behalf) to come and smash your stuff up and maybe give you a slap?

Well you said they replied...which kind of implies you said something

What a constructive comment. Why not just come out and say what you mean? Lets call the OP a liar and reduce the discussion to a "your a liar" , "no I'm not" level. Or lets assume that the OP was less clear in his original post than he should have been!

Im not calling him a liar...Im thinking hes left things out from the original encounter...

I posted a constructive comment earlier but it was totally ignored by everyone in their bloodlust against 'chavs'...

They killed a swan

Im just glad there is people like the OP who take action like this,

I hope there will be more viglantes coming up through the ranks

Yah and what if you accidentally hit a swan with your car? Can I come and smash the crap out of your car?

remember that there is nothing to suggest these boys killed the swan on purpose...Its just assumed because the original poster included the word chav in his post..

They told us that the two kids threw stones at the baby swan and killed it, and the two blokes were phoning up the rspca.

Hmmm?

Hmmm?

Have you ever been a fisherman mate? Go to any lake with people fishing alongside birds and you will always find people lobbing stuff toward the birds if they come too close...

It scares them off and its a damn sight better than seeing a swan get tangled in your line and cut its own leg off trying to get away.

If they were just common chav hooligans, why would they have a full tackle set? Why would they remain there after killing a swan to get their jollies?

As I said in my earlier, ignored post...its perfectly plausible that they accidentally killed the swan while trying to scare them away from the deadly lines.

Look ppl i just wanted it to get off my chest about what happened and i thought the best way was to write it down, like if i have trouble sleeping i sometimes write it down on a piece of paper what i got to do the next day, im sure some of you lot do that.

Im glad i stood up for myself against the forces of darkness and i really do hope they took something away from it and not just some funny story to tell at school.

And?

That is hardly concrete proof?

When I was 15 I used went fishing and after losing a rod and seeing a swan get caught up in the line, I started to scare them away. I can tell you now; it would take some accuracy to kill a swan with a stone deliberately.

At the end of the day, it is much better to see some young guys out fishing, than as is more common, getting out of there eyes on drink and drugs. I wonder if the poster would have had the same resolve, if it had been a large group of drunken teenagers. I think not. They have every right to fish and to protect there property- if he thought they were up to no good, he should have phoned the police. As it is I think he is liable for the gear he vandalised and more.

Thats fine mate...but we are allowed to comment right? If you want a private diary, go start a secret blog..

Did you expect everyone to clap you on the back and say well done?

Theres a good chance you destroyed the belongings of a couple of responsible kids just having a fun day fishing and who mistakenly killed a baby swan.

Yeah, I am a fisherman. I regulary fish for carp, tench and roach at a private lake in Wales. I utterly love the sport.

I agree that birds can be the bane of fishing, especially when using bread. But I certainly don't throw rocks at them, also, how on earth can you carry on fishing in that area after disturbing the water so much pounding it with rocks.

I usually reel in and use my landing net to scare them off.

To kill a baby swan with rocks, you have to aim for it.

Good point about them having all their gear with them, if they had an intention of killing a swan, they would no doubt only turn up with a handful of rocks at the bank. But perhaps they got bored, saw the swan(s) and thought they would have a bit of fun. Who knows.

Maybe in Korea you do that as thats bird flu haven...but personally I walk lakes and areas and never seen fisherman throwing stones at birds and swans and things. Maybe not fishing by birds is a solution?

Exactomundoliciously correct.

Just because you have never seen it, doesn't mean it never happens. It happens all of the time where i fish. Unfortunately the birds will approach you as a lot of people feed them bread. You would never get any fishing done (in some circs) if you had to bring you line in every two mins.

Are you a young kid? Sometimes they do stupid things...Like throwing rocks toward birds to scare them off...I know ive done it before..

Your last 2 words are the kicker..Who knows...It certainly doesnt sound like enough proof to warrant smashing up all their stuff, which as you know, aint exactly cheap.

They honestly dont sound like chavs to me...Ive never met a chav who is a serious fisherman....ever...and certainly never met one with enough balls to sit around after hes just done something like that...If they were chavs they would have run off laughing...

True but then the people I see fish seem responsible and mature and treat the area they fish responsibly. Respecting the environment you fish preserves the environment for everyone surely?
