Everything comes down to price with you, Tommy.
Everything PC comes down to performance at a given price-yeah, it's my no.1 hobby, but there are other things in life that can better use cash when equivalents exist.
Like cars, proper grub, holiday home in Tuscany, you know, things that can make the difference between cheaper floor tiling and lesser tiling, your stomach/feet notice the real luxuries in life going about barefoot abroad on a full belly...![]()
Nope, I was talking about humbug's hundreds of £'s air cooled AMD setup humbling a thousands of £'s water cooled 6 core Titan setup.
The Mantle effect:

That only works if the person spending the money cuts out those 'luxuries' otherwise its meaningless, cost/price is all relative to the persons income. You're basing your whole argument that everyone has the same spend and same earning, slightly flawed.

If money isn't an issue for people then why make a big deal about the 970 being more power efficient by a whopping 85+ watts compared to the 290.....
Someone on here (can't remember who) worked it out that if you play games for 4 hours "every" day for 2 years (iirc), the difference in cost between a 290 and 970 is a massive £50
For myself price is always the number one concern, what is the point on spending quite a bit more for something, which isn't really "much" better? I rather put the money that I save towards something else. That is the main reason I stick with AMD, they offer better bang per buck, I was so badly wanting a 780 but just couldn't justify the extra £100. Hopefully the 970 pricing won't just be a one of but...... as we have seen with the price cuts and free games by AMD, it doesn't look like they will give up the bang per buck crown.
I think sometimes some people are more than just a little bit annoyed that some have the same performance with a combination costing £100's as they do having spent £1000's.
They are not getting any Uber E-peen over their peers having much cheaper rigs.
Selective reading/quoting time, where did I print that, or can't you grasp the definition of my personal choice?
I don't tell anyone what to purchase, It's personal choice, I'm just pointing out the bleeding obvious, there's milk and there's milked.
I think sometimes people are a little jealous and therefore have to keep mentioning how much pence their system cost them. A real enthusiast never mentions price, as everyone who does their hobby accepts that much hobby = much expenditure.
I come from an era when overclockers / enthusiasts used their detailed knowledge to get high performance on minimal cost and were proud of those achievements.
Not just spend the most = get the most because that's a fools game.
But i do accept i'm on of a dying breed![]()
That gives me a chance to plug Team GB (whom I am representing) next week in Hull.
Platform Expo 2014 is where we will be teaching people on overclocking and benching and will be a great couple of days for people to see what is what on computers.

Team MLG's HiVizMan will be with us and I would love to see some of the OcUK community come and say "Hi". It promises to be a fantastic couple of days and hope to see some of you guys there. Gaming on an LN2 cooled system will be immense

Cheers Arc, it will be fantastic and if I can get a few people buying a PC and primarily buying an nVidia powered PC, I have done well
Only joking but seriously looking forward to getting my first taste (not literally) of LN2 benching.![]()
Sounds intriguing. I trust you will provide the forum with the odd snippet about your LN2 experience? Would love to hear what it is like.![]()
We will be live streaming to *********************** and I will have my trusty Canon for some decent pictures (best I let someone else take them)![]()
I really need to get my bottom over to that site. I can't remember if I signed up or not.![]()
I'll try and watch it live.
Funnily enough, this makes me think of the model of 7970 that I bought (matrix); that's a card designed for that kind of caper, if I remember rightly. It just sits in my rig idling most of the time, so it's not really stretching its legs as Asus intended.![]()
