A,B,C,D really doesn't help - you can't tell if they're guys or girls for a start. Lie about their names if you like but at least give them names.

A bit easier to understand if you delete the word 'friend'

A breakdown of step 3 - which is untrue (a lie)

i) gf has told A to stay away from B
ii) A tells D, who tells C, who tells OP - OP is receiving 3rd hand hearsay.

gf is worried that A has indeed told D,

conclusion: gf believes lie & C is stirring up trouble
