To be honest the fact he has to wait until April to afford the deposit, has to go for a 1.4 because its Group 5 etc etc says to me that he is spending money he doesn't have on a brand new car he cannot afford :(

but thats not buying a car above his station ;)

If I was spending 13k I wouldn't be leaving the garage in a mini thats for sure but each to there own and if it makes you happy feel free, one more second hand bargin left for thr rest of us.

Well, I have managed to bypass the insurance situation (go away insurance police before you start) and is now going to be easily affordable, £50 for the insurance monthly and £250 for the Mini, so just over £300 a month out of my £1000 isnt gonna dent the balance as badly as the £500 I would have been paying...

you are considering paying 30% of wages just on finance + insurace  With petrol and other costs your going to be spenind close to 50% of you salary fo a mini, and by the looks of the deals you posted there will be a crippling last payment. Its you money mate but is a mini really worth that much to you?

Got no other outgoings apart from my Phone which is about £36 a month lol, so why ever not while im young?

Even though you're the person driving the car all the time, and you'll have your own name on the finance agreement and on the V5?

And £250 a month is over 4 years, right?

Good luck.

On Finance, but on the V5 no, and before the end of the finance insurance will be okay as I will of turned 21 by then..

So how is that going to work? If you're the one buying the car, named on the invoice and and named on the finance agreement, they're not going to let you put somebody else's name down as the owner with the DVLA, are they?

But you wont have any NCB so insurance is still going to be higher.

NCB makes the bigest difference not so much age.

0 NCB im 22 emplyed less than 8000 miles a year
£2134.00

3 NCB
£829.99

All the rest exactly the same. This is from Norwich Union and was only very quick.

All quotes on a 1.8 Mondeo Zetec, even though they are high as im currently paying £411 with my GF on the policy.

Wow i hope you have a good income, thats a lot of money to be paying out! ~£500 per month for car and insurance!!

I've got a nice Clio 182 and i only pay £260 a month for car and insurance.

You can put anyones name down who will accept it. If I phoned Tony Blair and he agreed to be the registered keeper of my car, the DVLA can do nothing about it, nor will they care! :)

Exactly, the registered keeper is just that - the registered keeper. Not neccesarily the legal owner of the car.

And dont finance yourself up to buy a car you can't afford to properly insure. Loads of great cars out there for half the price.

I can afford it :)

Insurance I have a quote of £653 which is £126 Deosit and £57.45 a month, easily affordable, ive just made an appointment to go see what second hand Minis they have in stock which will work out cheaper :)

Glad to see you looking at cheaper options, you don't want to be committing yourself to the possibility of living at home for the next 4 years becasue you can't afford rent and the car payments, I know a few people who have fallen into this trap and seriously regretted it!
