A Jailbreak Guru

Due to crashing and problems i am now back unjailbroken and will be staying like this there was one thing i like about jailbreak the scrollable folders but i would rather hold on to my warranty and 100% of app store apps work.

It is more of a pain to un-jailbreak then it was to jailbreak in the first place.

It is more of a pain to un-jailbreak then it was to jailbreak in the first place.

In what way was it a pain?. I assumed after making a "back up" of the phone in iTunes that all that was required was to restore the iPhone then drop the backup back into it again after it returned to its restored state?. Or is there more to it than that?.

It was a pain in terms of geting it back to what i had.

For some reason itunes replaced the pre-jailbreak back up with one it made after the jailbreak so i had to restore to one from 3 days ago not a massive problem but lost some messages and had to re download some apps.

The main reason its a pain is to have a 100% un-jailbroken phone its not enough to restore it from a new ios update and restore from back up, here are the steps

Restore to clean iso in itunes

Set up from old back up or as a new phone

go in to menu and rest and use wipe all (i forget what its called)

reboot phone check there is no sign of jailbreak stuff kicking around

now restore from a back up from before you jailbroke you phone.

then drag all your music back to the phone. (the biggest pain)

Other than sbsettings what are some must have app's for a jb 4G :D

Now that we are allowed to discuss JB on here, I thought I would share one of the best sources of JB info I have.
His YOUTUBE name is Dinozambas or D7 and his channel has helped thousands if not millions of people over the years. Ive been using his help for about 2 years now.
If anything new is out D7 is right on it, testing and uploading a walkthrough videio for all to see, he is 100% legit and very very helpful.

Winterboard a must have

Hmmmm, no offence intended m8 but I'd disagree. Winterboard slows down the phone to a crawl in some cases. Always has done, no matter what the OS version and it's no different now on OS4.

Unless you really, really must have it, I'd stay well away from Winterboard.

I'd agree with that. Winterboard rinsed my battery and made my 3G really slow. If you just want to change the wallpaper on a 2G/3G, try BossPaper instead.

Well I would have to disagree now...in the past on my 3G I found WB to slow my iPhone down quite abit. But I just put it back on today and find no speed lose at all which I was surprised at.

Hmmmm..... /strokes beard.

The only thing I've seen thus far that is a tad annoying is a sync between iTunes and a JB handset will sometimes ( not all the time though ) rearrange your icons. Takes a few minutes to drop them all back where you had them though so no biggie.

If I update my 3gs to the latest 4.01 firmware/bootrom/whatever it is, can I still jailbreak it and unlock it (phone was bought sim free on O2 but i'm on Orange)

Can you JB an iPhone 2G from safari?

Not sure, haven't tried it but it would be just as easy to JB a 2G with blacksn0w and a USB connection. That's how I did my 2G. As below, depends what OS your 2G is running?. If it's 4.0.1 then yeah, should work in Safari via a browser JB.

I think so, JB from www.jailbreakme.com you mean?. As far as I know it doesn't really matter what phone it is, 2G, 3G, 3GS, 4 etc, if it is running OS 4.01 it should work. :)

Just updated to 4.01 and because my phone is an O2 one, but my SIM is Orange I can't get past the activation screen so I obviously can't get to jailbreakme.com, doh!
