A Level Results Day - Eeek

I know! I only got 63 on FP2, but because of my 90+ marks in most the other modules I still got my A in Further maths! PHEW!

That FP2 exam was harder than I expected, what board were you taking?

I was on OCR, managed a 67 myself. I remember looking through some past papers the night before and just giving up within an hour or so. I just couldn't work nearly fast enough to get to the last question, let alone do the damn thing! The marks in the other, considerably less evil modules pushed me well through the A boundary though, it's just a little irritating to see that nearly half the marks I lost in further came from a single paper.

Really not pleased with my AS results - worrying about what to do now.

Computing - B
Theatre Studies - C
Business Studies - C
General Studies - C
Economics - E

Wow, a lot of people have done very well in their A Levels this year on OcUK. Well done all!

When I did mine it was the first year of the A/S and A2 level split. Not good times. I didn't do so well but was happy with what I got at the time and got into my second choice uni so that was all good.

If I were of Uni going age again, looking at the way life is at the moment; unless I got all A's and was going to study at a top University in a useful subject (Law, Medicine, Etc) I don't think I'd bother. Considering the amount of debt people have to rack up these days...it's ridiculous.

Good luck to everyone!

Although your results are not ideal, you can make a comeback and go to the university you desire :)

Genuinely, I have never heard of Theatre Studies!

The annoying thing is - I revised and tried really quite hard! Now, i'm not a dumb/stupid student at all compared to some people I see from other schools however sometimes I can't understand why I got those grades! I mean, (now i'm not being bigheaded or anything, just trying to express this in the nicest way) I am currently the top student in computing in my year yet my WJEC forms say I achieved a D in my exam whereas some of my friends from the same class got A's?! Wrongly marked - I don't know? I know for a fact I got 100% in my coursework because I tried so hard and worked on it for a long time - same with my theatre studies practical (I did technical lighting) which I stayed after school for many evenings setting up - I hired equipment in from a friend who manages a theatre in Uppingham yet I only achieved a B (To be honest I thought the whole performance from my angle looked fantastic with the lighting). Annoys me that I put in so much work to make the grade (or try to) and I get a B whereas people that go and act (im not saying it's not hard because I can't act to save my life, some people can with ease though) anyway - they can go and perform and get an A (as did some of my friends) for the same exam! What is going on?

It's not that I didn't revise, didn't try and didn't stay optimistic and that is why I cannot understand why I did so badly. I suppose reading on other forums of many people getting straight A's, A's and B's etc doesn't help the matter but it makes me think whether or not I am just stupid? lol

>_<

I do sympathise - I managed to get a freak 50% in my best subject by miles for one of the final 6 exams of my degree, my average including this was 68%. I was told it would never get changed (it has been marked by 3 people) and that I would never have any feedback - to appeal would mean I wouldn't graduate. I will never, ever understand what went wrong that day. So now I'm stuck with a wonderful 69% degree mark - yay. Not that it really matters, but boy, I know that feeling!

In your possition, I would appeal. Remember, you can still retake some of your exams :)

Congratulations all, I got my scottish results a few weeks back and got;
Maths advanced higher- B
Physics AH-B
Applied Maths AH-C
Graphics higher-B

was a bit annoyed I didnt get an A in maths/physics but no big deal as I already had an unconditional for Mechanical engineering at glasgow :D

Computing A2 - A
Maths AS - A
Geography AS - A
Physics AS - B

Bit gutted about the B in physics, only 8 UMS off! Always retakes next year ;)

Roll on no more computing and a full further maths A2 in a year.... hopefully all said and done can end up with 5 A2s at A grade, and thus 600 UCAS points. Would be a nice way to roll into uni with ;)

As long as you aren't the birk that uses that to begin conversations (yes, they do exist), then go for it

Haha really? I can't think of a worse way to make yourself seem really arrogent than to start conversation with exam results or UCAS points boasts...

Probably.

But, seriously, it's hardly the worst thing in the world. The fact is that once you're out of schooling for most jobs, most of the time, what matters isn't pure brains but the ability to work hard, get on with people and put yourself forward. It doesn't make the blindest bit of snot whether you're smarter than the person next to you, try hard, make the best of your own abilities and stick at it and you'll go far.

So you slate people who did/do A-levels yet you did a BTEC?

Wow you fail at life.

I have no idea what education is like these days for 16-18 years old, so good luck to you all.

You have no idea about what a BTEC can entail so don't **** it off. (I did a BTEC in Electronic & Electrical Engineering and it was a **** of a lot harder than A-Levels and it got me and all my classmates our pick of University places). My classmates and I all did an optional 1 hour a week on top of our fulltime 5 day a week course to get our A-Level in Maths, which we all got an A in.

It doesn't matter, I was too busy working to pay the rent and partying to go to any lectures or do any coursework and got a not entirely unexpected 3rd. Nobody has ever (in 15 years) asked what grade I got, going to Uni and getting some life experience outside of it is all that counts.
