A levels

I can't comment on any of those subjects but im in my second year at college doing a BTEC in IT. The BTEC is equal to 4 A levels and sure is a lot of work, the first year was a breeze but second year is hell :(

I love this attitude:

Im not sure how much a BTEC is weighted, but its credibility must be doubted when everyone studying for one instantly shouts "BUT ITS EQUIVALENT TO XX A LEVELS"

Surely, if this qualification is all its supposed to be then it wouldnt need constant comparison to A levels

if you plan on teaching maths, do maths alevel and you should be good enough to do further maths too.

ps geography, in my opinion, is just pure memory recall and colouring in :p

It will be useful though, surely, to have more than a GCSE in something that you plan to devote the rest of your career to.

You should really be doing these at A level standard, it will be beneficial to getting into uni.

I can't change my options unless I want to pay to do that, if I don't get the results I need I am going to do a BTECH in early years care or something, equal to 4 A levels. Then somehow that can get me into uni, don't ask how!

This is what i discovered. I was getting As for both pieces of my coursework, a B overall as i didn't do so well on the exam. Go into A-Level, completely different and a lot harder.

I now loathe the words 'Case Study' -_-;;

I had a C at GCSE, B at AS.

I had As on all my coursework.

I was heading for an A at A2, but I severely mucked up one of the exams which really hurt my end result :(
There were 6 units, one was coursework, 5 were exam.
I had 80s and 90s out of 100 on four of the papers, but on one paper I got 22/120 (I really buggered it up).

In the end, because of that ONE paper, I went from an A to a D. Go figure. It still really eats at me, because I want that A and I was so close! :(

I've asked lecturers here if it's worth me re-taking the A2 paper I mucked up to get my A, but he said not to bother because i'm at uni now. I suppose it's a fair point.

Far too much planning ahead so far lol! :p

Indeed. Don't get too set in your plans. I did that and recently chucked them all sky high which felt weird but was the best thing for me. Try to see about one year ahead - you can always change courses at uni if you don't like it remember. Also, don't feel you HAVE to finish your a-levels then run straight into uni. I think a lot of people get over stressed and just rush into it. Anyway there's my 2pence.

That wouldnt be needed if you had pursued the right A levels to walk straight into a degree course.

This BTEC will take at least a year, maybe 2. Taking longer until you get into work

It depends on your final grade on whether or not you get into Uni with a BTEC. Usually PPP doesn't cut it. I personally need MMM to get on the Computer Games Design course i want to do.
BTW: BTEC is graded on Pass, Merit or Distinction

A levels take 2 years aswell just like a BTEC

Oh I'm going to have a gap year, then I'm going to go to uni.
Down where I live you can't earn a decent amount of money without having qualifications and I refuse to let that happen. I'm not going to be stuck in a dead end job...
Sorry rant over! :p

Prefered Geography by a mile, hence the reason i'm now doing it as a degree.
Another vote for Geog!

Although the coursework seemed never-ending, I enjoyed geography immensely. The exams were pretty tough - and yes I also dread the words 'case study'! But if you can easily regurgitate one for any question you'll fly through them. I put a lot into the work so I suppose I got quite a lot out of it :)

BREATHE!!
I have been told about the workload but I am prepared to put the work in, I need to get better results than my brother lol! :p
Oh and i want to do this for myself as well, to prove I'm not a waste of space!! :p

Finishing my first year at AS this year. :)

Did English and English Lit as well as ICT and Business. If you feel you are good at english you will soon find out that it is extremely hard and stressing at A-level. Lots of coursework, deadlines, timed essays etc.

However, the two subjects do mix very well in relation to technique and terminology. You can impress the teachers by using some very fancy words ;)

I posted on here a while back about how hard i was finding the work actually. a lot of my friends at school also are finding the work hard and are worrying more and more now the exams are coming up including myself.

You do however loose all of the idiots and chavs in the school and gain really nice friendships and decent social academic skills. The only subject you may find boring is General Studies ;)

They do, but she is planning on doing one after A levels, which is 2 more years.

My bad. Maybe I misread. Though she meant if she didn't get the grades to do that A levels she wanted she would have to do BTEC. Meh.

General Studies is great, we never do any work and the exams are pretty easy, not sure about the A level exam tho I went shopping on the day of the exam so i've got to resit it in June :p

You're making me feel like I should've cared what I got at GCSE now :p
I can never understand why to some people, grades are the be all and end all.

girls tend to work harder maybe I am finding it hard since im so lazy, I wonder, still its an ABSOLUTE mile away from GCSE, my best friend got an A* at GCSE and is in line for an E

I did history till A2 - It was quite a lot of work (but not crazy i`d say), but it was very interesting and it was my favourite A-level (though not a hard choice with biology, chemistry and maths as competition). I think my board was AQA and the topics were interesting. If you have an idea of where you will be studying (ie staying on at the same place or changing) go ask them about the board they use and the topics that they cover. IMO modern history (WW2, russian revolution) was much better than learning about Henry VIII + Wolsey. But its personal preference really.
