A mouse makes a difference..

I can't use a regular mouse for gaming, i have always used a trackball mouse for FPS games.

I have had 3 of these so far, i think the first one was bought back in 2002/3, then i bought another one in 2009 and the last one back in 2011 which i'm still using now.

Anyone used one of these?

Microsoft Trackball Explorer 1.0, i doubt i'll ever use another mouse as long as i can keep this or buy another one down the line.

I have my 15 year old MX518 going strong still. I never got on with roller ball mice. One of my employees used to use a vertical mouse, could not work that one out but I'm sure if I stuck with it I'd get used to it.

I remember some amazing Quake 3 players using these early 00s. How I'll never know but their accuracy and prediction was insane. It's crazy finger tracking control.

They are super easy to use, i like the fact the mouse stays stationary and it's only the ball that moves, it does make FPS games a lot easier as it's all done with 2 fingers.

I remember all the rave for that keyboard and some old program for cpu temps etc etc that tied into it. It was white squares like spedometers. System something... I remember everyone using that program in 2003 to 2006.

Yeah that was the G15 V1 I think you mean, mine was just orange LCD (v2), totally pointless but cool at the time :)

Ahhh, the v1 had a Gameboy LCD dot matrix screen? I remember it a gun metal body with dull greenish screen.

This has recently been a revelation for me. I used to think all gaming mice are essentially the same and I'd get the hang of it after some time. But my recent forays into CS have proved I couldn't be more wrong.

Size, shape and weight of the mouse are crucially important. This might not be too much of an issue in Windows desktop or in SP games, however, in CS amongst my mates I went from usually top to always bottom even after a week of playing.

Apart from tough luck, I suppose another reason could be that I changed the mouse from Logitech G102 to Asus Gladius II Core as the G102 started registering double-clicks on single clicks and also missing clicks. At the time I didn't realise that the Asus was a radically different mouse (ie. bigger size, dimensions and weight) than the G102 I was used to. But after a week of drubbing, now I know :D.

Found some great videos by rocketjumpninja on the subject. Now awaiting delivery of Razer Viper Mini whilst using broken G102 in CS and a cheapo in Windows desktop.
