Though if they rush the cards out before they or the software are ready they risk one of their own.I'm sure they'll make an announcement very soon. They'd surely want to capitalise on the Nvidia scandal?
I think the reason is that generally by the time you've run out of VRAM the card has run out of grunt anyway. So you may have to turn settings down to run these newer games at the settings that would use all the VRAM, which might possibly mean that the game no longer uses the extra VRAM.
So just because a card has 8GB VRAM it doesn't mean it'll be able to run BF4 @ 4K with 60fps. 1080p will be less demanding so you're less likely to run out of grunt, but you're also less likely to run out of VRAM.
So it may be worth saving money getting a 4GB.
I got two of the 8Gb MSI cards. They run too hot in my case so I'm currently running a single card.
All the games I've tried thus far play fine with just the one at 1440p. Just so long as you don't go silly with the AA.
Have the powercolor r9 290s come in yet? Hoping my order gets shipped soon as its holding up the rest of my order .
MSI's have arrived, Powercolor are due later this week.
Can't find ANY reviews of the MSI online? Somebody tell me these beat a 970?
Thanks Ninja. So basically no... Seems i'm better off sticking with 970. Assetto corsa runs nice and i'm enjoying it. Wouldn't want to ruin it, just for the sake of a maybe.http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1056?vs=1355
in fps terms they seem on a par...
reason to buy ati 8gb: the 8GB may give them [significantly] more longevity...subject to how far north vram usages goes in the next few years...
reason not to buy: a bit noisier......jurys out on lack of full DX12 support - whether this means anything in practise no ones saying...
970 good bang for buck over 2 years...a safe choice over next 2 years
8GB 290x....possibly the best value in a long while...but who has a crystal ball....
Just noticed that link is for 4gb isn't it?http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1056?vs=1355

How hot? if you don't mind me asking.
Hi there
Powercolor PCS+ 290's have arrived in stock.
One card went up to 95 degree's where I believe it starts to throttle.
The second card went in to the 70's.
I just don't think the airflow in my 600t was up to the job of cooling them in crossfire.
I'm currently running it with one card and it sits about 70 if I run the Heaven benchmark.
