A official Armed Assault thread

I loved the campaign on Operation Flashpoint it made you feel that you were earning new ranks and you were making a difference lets hope its the same with Armed Assault.

Sorry to say, but ArmA`s SP campaign sucks.

Oddly, I got a message from gameplay that there was a problem with my order due to my card.
So went back to order again, to see the price had dropped from 24.99 to 21.99!

Cool beans.

I've just pre-ordered and I'm eagerly anticipating grabbing the nearest Trabant in order to drive off and taunt some T-72's! Then i'll spend hours messing around with the editor (if there is one?) producing woefully overcomplicated missions that never ever work properly :D .

No doubt it'll be bugged as it's predecessors, but then as with Hidden and Dangerous, that just adds to the charm ;) .

My copy was dispatched today too. :D

I have read ArmA's campaign isn't as good as OFP's, but i think the real meat & veg will come from the multiplayer. There's already a good number of mods out now, so when people start getting to grips with the editor and we hopefully get some patches for bug fixes, new weapons/vehicles etc from Bohemia it should be great.

I've read the campaign isn't all that as well. TBH I'm not too bothered. As many have said, multiplayer is the main attraction. And given the number of user missions and campaigns that will appear there will be plenty to do.

Also, I've read on the BIS ArmA forums that the Cold War Crisis and Resistance campaigns from OFP are being converted for ArmA (OFP story etc with ArmA weapons and equipment). Not sure who is doing this, or when if it'll appear but if it does surface it'll be great. Here's hoping.

Where does it say it doesn't use Starforce? If it does use it this is reason alone for me not to buy it.
Starforce was used by the publisher of the czech and german versions i think. I'm sure the european publisher 505 have said its not using it. Check the ArmA forums there may be something on there.

PC Zone have given it 8.4, said it was great apart from the engine isn't brilliant and theres a few bugs.

Verdict
War on a disc

Uppers
Just like the real thing
Massive, freeform levels
Countless vehicles to drive and pilot
Extremely hardcore

Downers
Unpolished
Extremely hardcore

the game arrived today and im so disappointed the graphics is poor the bugs seem bad making the engine look bad. The game play is poo its just so boring what waste of 21 quid its going back on the shelf until some patches fix it but i expect that wont be enough to turn this game into a good one :(

I think the graphics are quite impressive considering how big everything is. Looks very good with everything ramped up. Problem is it runs like Language! - can barely hack 20fps if much is going on - and that's with a e6600, 4gig DDR2, and an 8800GTS! I'm not convinced their gonna be able to release a wonder patch that solves everything!

There are quite a few bugs at the moment, but much was the case when OFP first came out.

In fact, it wasn't until the US release, and Version 1.2 that OFP really came into it's own.

While I know there are issues, I wouldn't even consider not buying this game. Firstly I want to support BIS as much as possible to ensure they keep giving us games like OFP and ArmA, and secondly I know that unlike many other developers they won't walk away after 2 patches and ignore any remaining issues to work on their next release.

I mean afterall, OFP got to version 1.96. I don't know a single game where the devs gave that much support to the community. And after v1.46 most of the patches were just correcting minor issues that really didn't matter all that much.

Mine dropped through my door this morning. I'm rather disappointed so far to be quite honest. The campaign so far seems to be much less engaging than the previous game. No real introduction, no feeling like you're just a rookie. You're dumped in a humm-vee and off you go. I'm on one of the first optional missions where you have to destroy stationary armour by nightfall and it's bloody impossible. This is coming from a die-hard OFP fan too. There was hard in OFP but this is just hard in an annoying way. I hate the new flying controls too. OFP flying controls were perfect if you ask me. The other optional mission is just laughable too. I could throw that together in the editor in 5 minutes. A sniper mission where you take out two truckloads of troops. It's really rather bad because as soon as you fire, the tropps just hit the deck and don't move. It's far too easy to kill them. Not noticed any real bugs so far, but I agree performance could be better. I have it running adequatley but you can just tell it's never going to run perfectly on any machine. I suppose I'll see how it goes, see if MP is any good too. But at the moment I am not pleased

Got mine this morning and yes that mission is bloody impossible.

It definately doesn't feel a complete game but I have faith in BI and the community to get it sorted. Same sorta thing happened with OFP but atm the single player just doesn't feel as good.

I would imagine by the USA release it will be a much more solid game.

On the plus side the lighting and sound is awesome. Along with the realistic see explosions before you hear them etc

Was not too impressed with the Armed Assault demo but will still be gettin the game. I probably wasnt the biggest player of OFP but after playing OFP and then playing the Armed Assault demo its a bit like playing OFP with slightly better graphics.
