Beautiful game indeed! Haven't played a game this nice since Horizon New Dawn.

I’ve mixed feelings about it so far. Just done chapter VII. Some bits are fantastic, some bits are really annoying. Definitely not keeping me hooked like the first game. I’m pretty happy to stop playing after each chapter.

In the final chapters the AI really shows its failing points. Like one part you are supposed to run away from let's just say a guy, so you squeeze through a gap between two shelving units which have no backing so you can see right through them. The guy stands there on the other side and says "you can hide all you like" or words to that effect and goes off looking elsewhere lol.

It is as mentioned earlier, more a story narrative where you interact with the story, rather than play a game. And for that it is excellent with superb visual effects and cinematic directing.

OLED best looking game yet I think, 4k no DLSS 120hz on my 4090 at about 70% gpu usage, epeen is rock hard for this one

Are you talking about requim here? You cant get 4k 120hz with no dlss, mine only sits about 75-80 in game at 4k - using frame generation gets it up to about 115-120 and then dlss and frame generation will max out my 4k monitor at 138fps.

Completed it just now, piled in the last couple of hours this evening and didn't realise what the time was.

Well that was an experience for sure, definitely felt like being part of a long story saga, and one of the few games I actually completed without giving it up half way through due to boredom or bugs etc (Horizon, Prey, Dying Light 2, Res Evil 2 Remake, God of War,

Res Evil 3 Remake and Res Evil Village were the last games I completed in August for reference, Cyberpunk earlier in the year.

There's one scene where the sun is undisturbed as it sets over the water, the bright glow from it looks especially superb on QD-OLED at HDR 1000 with a sense of squinty glare and realism, especially how when you move the mouse camera around the way the optical effects play with the view like as if you're viewing the scene through a lens which gives the impression of being a drone camera behind Amicia.

Also the final scene reaching the summit was pretty stunning, but no screenshots of that as it might spoil a little surprise well worth seeing for yourself.

The particle effects and level of detail is pretty incredible on this engine, and on the whole even though it's not as optimised as desired, it ran well and convinced to me that for gaming, the upgrades I've done to my PC this year have been totally worth it by delivering a 99% smooth experience with high framerates and low frametimes without having to sacrifice any GFX quality setting.

I'd like to see more games with this sort of sustained performance. If the level of detail and SFX in the engine is this high, then I don't care if it sometimes dips to the 70s for example, Gsync handles that transitions from triple figure to double figure fps seamlessly.

I won't be replaying though as it's not the type of game that has any replay value to me, but there will be another one in the series judging by the Easter egg scene at the end, so don't quit out to main menu when the first credits roll :D

Also this was insightful as he refs the PC version too:

I just finished the first game and enjoyed it, very linear but the story kept me interested, will look at starting this soon. Graphics are great rankings me a lot of ryse soon of Rome

DLSS doesn’t work in requiem, I keep gett annoying sparkling everywhere. The graphics are stunning, but they do look a little too soft at times. What render settings are people playing with? (I have a 3080)

The shimmering was in the DF tech deep dive too in their PC preview section. It only is there in some areas of the game and not in all chapters. I posted about it before.

Render settings? I was ultra everything, DLSS Quality, motion blur off. Everything looked nice and sharp (3440x1440).

Yes.

The first game is absolutely awesome anyway, so it wouldn't be time wasted. The sequel is absolutely outstanding... my GOTY by a fair distance.

I'm going to give Requiem a 6/10. Didn't enjoy it nearly as much as the first one, the combat was not as fun. Perhaps because I left a couple of days between each play session, I forgot some of the different combat techniques you could maybe perform. I just ended up using the crossbow rather a lot. Too much running about as well which was made slightly less annoying as the environments were beautiful (most of the time). Definitely won't be rushing to play through it again which I normally would do to complete all the collectibles.

And a whole heap of praise for the devs - found no bugs and no crashes throughout the entire run.

^must admit i felt the same, in the big combat areas (later stages at least) swapping between weapon type was frustrating and led me to relying on the ai to do dumb things that then allowed you time the attacks more effectively.

Loved the game though, the story eclipses the combat shortcomings for sure! however, i found myself with more tools than i could use towards the end and lacked the parts to really make use of them, i probably needed to explore and take my time a bit more but other than the odd scenario never felt i rushed it.

the only bug i found was in the very early stages, i couldn't hit the targets Hugo was throwing into the water, a reload of that section sorted that and never came across another bug.
