Surely this is a very short sighted idea becuase it basically makes full lorries stick out like a sore thumb?
Not really, in the mind of the types who steal goods from trucks, they slash the curtains if the back door is open or not in my own experience, I've had my curtains cut as often with the doors open or closed as I've had it done whilst loaded or empty.
Its more down to where you park, if you have an empty trailer you tend to park up wherever, leaving the back doors open in the vain idea that people will respect others property and not try to steal from an obviously empty trailer, which to me, is something I don't particularly regard as short sighted! Care to elaborate mr Fox?

alas, usually due to pitch darkness or outright ignorance they don't seem to notice the wide open back doors and cut the curtains anyway......
Loaded, if possible, you park in a secure truckstop / service area - a nice idea in theory not so good in practice.........
If they are not after the contents of the trailer, tbh its the contents of the fuel tanks which when you think about it, will always sell on the black market!
Anti syphon devices are soon got round and usually on a windy night, same can be said of trailer load thefts - speaking from the drivers viewpoint sleeping in the cab, on a windy night you hear nothing. Scum know this and on such nights they tend to strike.
Its quite sad to think that most HGV drivers have to carry some form of "protection" shall I say whilst sleeping overnight, everything moves by HGV to a greater or lesser extent, thieves know this, people in distribution centres / warehouses etc talk and before you know it,mr scum hears about it and a driver is getting turned over for the load he's carrying. An awful lot of thefts ars pure opportunists and they seem to take pot luck.
Professional thieves will take the truck and the load, and sometimes the driver too!
You'd think refrigerated trailers would be relatively safe from the thieving scum, well, a good while ago I had such a visitor in the back of my trailer whilst I'd been parked in the HGV overnight.
I had not long got up & got dressed ready to continue my trip a "Banging" noise as he moved about in the trailer got my attention,so I jumped out of the cab, went round to the back of the trailer to investigate be greeted by a Vauxhall Astra which was not there previously, in the back of the Astra there were a few trays of returns that were on my trailer previously and I could hear a couple of scrote's rummaging about in the trailer.
If I told you what happened next in any great detail I'd probably get in trouble, lets just say, they were very glad to get out of the trailer when a good while later I stopped , opened the trailer and told them to **** off!
After they had thawed out, I imagine they were a bit upset to find themselves an extremely long way from where we started!
Both of them had plenty of time to be cool with me.
Worth pointing out that inside, on the floor of the trailer were 2 metal cased Stanley knives which were not there previously.....
