A question for the lorry drivers

I'm not having trouble understanding - I know why they do it I just beleive they are shortsighted in doing so, becuase in the long term it will do more harm than good.

How so?

Thieves won't touch things if they know it's not worth it. Fully advertising the truck unladen deters them. Fact. No point creating hassle for yourself and the truck if there is actually nothing in it.

Congratulations! You've grasped it! So what does it mean if you are a theif and you spot 6 trucks 1 of which has all its doors closed? Whats in the truck?

If a theif wants to get into somewhere they're going to get in. May as way take pre cautionary measure if you're unladen of fully advertising that the trailer actually holds nothing in it worth taking. Saves you hassle and saves the truck hassle. If you're fully laden I doubt there is much at all you can do. Seeing as R124 has a refigriated unit it wouldn't be a good idea to open it up for the night fully laden.

Is it comfortable seeping in the cabin?

Always thought it would be claustrophobic?

Sorry for all the questions... It's interesting. :)

Over time, having a door closed will begin to have a similar effect to a huge neon flashing sign mounted on the roof saying 'This trailer is full of lewt!'

And I believe in these cases there is **** all you can do. They advertise the trailers unladen to cause any unnecessary hassle. Please correct me if I am at all wrong R124

Yeah I was wondering the legal implications of sleeping in the cabin after a few beers.

You can stagger back to your truck ****** out of your mind if your daft enough to, you enter the vehicle in the passenger door, and place the keys somwhere they can not easily fall to hand. Do this and Mr Plodd technically won't bother you as your off duty and in effectively your home for the night.

Ultimately, your still in charge of a huge vehicle and bang to rights if they decide to turf everybody out of their cabs @ 4AM & breathalyser every driver in the truck stop - Which has happened to me more than once!

If I'm on a night out, I'll usually have one can with my tea but no more, many many truckstops have Bars that serve until 2AM, just think about that one for a bit!

Absolutely bob on mate.

Also, as I say Fox, chances are that out of 6 trailers in a lay by, 5 open one closed, if thieves are about, they will hit all 6. Such is the criminal mind it appears.

They also like to cut brake lines and slash tyres, poor lads, they must be so bored.....

I sleep better in a truck than I do my own bed, not for nothing am I divorced! ;):D

I'll grab some more photo's tonight & post a mini review of a DAF artic I think. :)

I better shut up now, I am back in work ,erm, 7 minutes ago..... :o

If I wasn't carrying anything I know I'd open the doors up too, no need to have the trailer damaged if there's nothing in there anyway.

It's not a perfect system obviously but it's better than having a trailer damaged, especially if you own the lorry.

Exactly, just how is it short sighted?

Becuase in the long term it makes empty trucks safer but makes loaded trucks much more vulnerable. The theif can make his way directly to the jackpot without risking being disturbed/wasting time searching empty trucks.

Like R124 said, the ***** scum won't have a problem with searching anyway it seems, at least this way truck damage is minimised and less drivers are put at risk?. It's one R124 has to answer he has more experience than us lot I don't believe it's short sighted though.

and on that note I'm heading back to college :)

Look forward to that review R124 :p

The bit you don't get Fox is that they do it anyway to a trailer with open doors or not.

In the long term, you'd hope that society will sort out such thieving scum, alas in these days of next to no Police patrols, the slashers roam lay-by's un challenged by the law, slashing for the hell of it as much as to see what's inside it seems.

Anyway, I shall continue this debate later, I must go to work!

I understand why they leave their doors open!

If you have 5 lorry's in a line say 4 are empty but 1 is full, the ones with the doors open hopefully don't get slashed, but the one with stuff will. Now say all the lorry's had their doors shut, they would all get slashed just because 1 lorry had stuff. Now to me, it makes more sense for only 1 lorry to get slashed than 5, it makes much more sense to slash the thieve, but thats illegal for some reason :(
