A short bit of 780BHP Dolomite perversion....

Doesn't the Saab 4 pot derive from the Triumph 4 pot? I'd have thought that they would be similar in size, although the heads may make a difference, I suppose. I don't really know earlier Saab engines, only from about the B205.

Hmmm, this tells us a bit about the evolution, but not much about sizes and weights... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saab_B_engine. From looking at the H engine stats (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saab_H_engine) it may be worth looking for a B201 from about '82 on as this sounds similar in basic design, but has the benefits of higher compression

The H and the B are pretty much the same - the B uses a jackshaft as per the triumph engines to drive the oil and waterpump, and the dissy. The H uses a belt for the waterpump and the cam for the dissy, and the crank for the oil pump. The 8v and 16v engines are near as dammit identical from the head gasket down. Slight change in the timing chain guides as the 16v has to drive 2 cams.

What I don't know is how similar the footprint of the later engines and the crank output of the later engines compares to the triumphs to see if the sump and flywheel offer up.
