This last one is one of my favourites, shot with BW in mind and the conditions were perfect.

I have to say it, but the lighting on her face is bugging the hell out of me, ruins the shot completely for me :( - Otherwise Robbie your work is fantastic. It might be just me but in my opinion you have certainly upped your game a hell of a lot this past year along with finding a better understanding of your own personal signature/style. I thoroughly enjoy the thread and viewing the photos every time, although I don't post much in here overall :)

Hope that doesn't come across as patronising. You're a better photographer than me by a bloody mile and your shots certainly give me a lot to think about when working on my own weddings :)

Ah no of course dude feedback both good and bad is good regardless of how it's given/taken :p It gives an interesting understanding of how everyone views things differently to ones self and key points stick in mind to later recall upon if needed.

I always tell couples booking me that I learn something new from each shoot whether it's an event, a wedding or simply a night out shooting street. I don't know everything of course, there's always things to learn and discover and those things come from all directions, from photographers who are just starting out to experts in their relevant photographic fields alike  - Some people will say that this is the wrong way to go about doing business because I'm essentially telling clients that I don't know everything when that's what they want to hear but in reality there is no right or wrong and 99% of clients want to see and hear an honest approach rather than rolling up at a wedding fayre and hearing how Photographer at stand xyz claims to be the best because of abc and stuff like that. Those that want to hear that they're getting the best of the best and will give then an amazing deal for booking with me won't get booked, likewise bargain hunters of which there have been several the past 18 months :o

The one you're referencing, in BW, has a look I really liked. I think in a way that in colour it looks better and more pleasing generally because the slight is softer but for me personally the BW was more raw. Of course they will get both copies but I'll only post my favourite online and see how others relate to that vision, non standard aspect ratio or otherwise ;)

I may have rambled on, it's home time on a Friday and I have a week off to look forward to so please excuse anything that doesn't make sense!

You'll be out of a job soon, don't need no photographer when we can just take selfies!

I want your 85mm f1.4 when you sell it, can't believe how sharp it is wide open.

It's what I have under this preset folder ;)

Untitled-1_6t9m4.jpg

Never understood the secrecy of some here on what's in their lightroom filter.

Its said time and time again on here, photography is about the person behind the camera. Its not the camera, or the lens, or light room that takes good pictures. Its the photographer.

But the whole idea of "I have light room presets but I'm not going to tell you whats in them" just kind of blows that idea out of the water. It somehow implies if you shared the details of the preset, somebody else would be able to mimic your style.

But surely, you are your style ? not lightroom ?

I think you've missed the point of that post in question there as it was a post in jest based loosely around what you're saying. Surely the windy face gives that away.

I don't care that people know what's in there as people already know what's in there as I've mentioned it in many threads over the years. It's a bunch of custom presets I've built up over the years along with some VSCO packs and my own presets mixed into a few from them to bring my own style to them and make it unique to the way I shoot images and apply the finishing touches sin post.

What I won't show is the slider adjustments to them and anyone else would do the same and understand why :)

Very nice. I really like the ones with the trio of girls and the selfie, even if they do 'pop' a bit much for my taste.

Agree with keeping your presets under your hat btw.

While 21:9 may not be a stills Photography standard it is a cinematic one and for web use it works well too. I like to use it where I feel it works well enough.

16:9 (1st photo) is an accepted stills standard these days though.

I tend to crop stuff differently depending on the shot although I don't even try to keep it to vaguely standard ratios lol. Sometimes cropping is to remove something I don't want in the shot but more often than not it's just because I think it looks better like that.

I guess it might be a bit different for wedding stuff though? Are you also thinking ahead to see if it'll all fit in a nice album later or don't you worry about that too much?

Processing RAW images is the same as processing a bit of film, I get fed up of people saying oh you must have a nice camera when the shots I upload actually look quite different to how they look off camera. Anyway, here's a preset, knock yourself out - http://goo.gl/wiZBU3

People generally aren't being secretive, it's just that often a preset will give a base to work from and it'll get tedious explaining what was done exactly to each picture.

I found that with modern albums they are indifferent to traditionally "standard" sizes. I have not had a single wedding to date where the couple have printed physical photos and individually put them in. Instead they've always gone for the online approach by uploading whatever photo, whatever the crop and placing them using a GUI like Photobox and having a hardback photo book printed. One of the many benefits of the digital age I guess :p

You can also get anamorphic aspect ratio frames, 16:9 frames and anything else as a custom frame for little more than standard cost from local framing specialists. If such a request came in I have my go to framers for that

Nevertheless, as mentioned I still include a standard crop where required but it depends on the photo in question. Sometimes non standard crops work better than standard to my eyes so that's what I present, after all, I'm hired based on my vision, not the vision of others!

Lizard Point:

, on Flickr

Had a spot of liquid lunch lunch in the cafe which is located among the small buildings in the distance you can see in the distance on the right half. What a beautiful way to finish the visit there :)

Use spoiler tags when an image is over 1280X wide.

More convenient to use Flickr share. I don't have a Dropbox account. Looks alright sharpness wise to me anyway though, click through into Flickr and it is fine. Seems the sharpening only applies to the preview images as above.

Auto sharpen should be a feature destined for the built in Flickr Enhance mode but it's outside of that area which is a shame but meh, what can you do.

The only workaround is to share the higher resolution versions instead of up to 1280 but not all forums take too well to stretching the thread :p
