A Window To Wales

Yep, definitely liking the look of that! Now that decision has been made I best start looking for the next problem... :D

I'm actually for some completely unknown reason looking forward to having a go at bending the PETG, although I'm sure that will change rather quickly when the first bend goes completely crap and the second one is even worse :D

Got 6 x 500mm tubes here atm but can always order more as soon as I see how difficult it is and how much waste there'll be, didn't want to order dozens of em then get it right first time

Ah, that's another decision made then, Pexon it is! Will save all the wiring jobs until it's nice and sunny, the Guinness is cold and Wales have qualified for the World Cup*, should have a bit of patience then...

*This may have to be dropped as it could delay the build by 20+ years :D

And if not, the post will be heavily edited to make it look like I'm just oozing natural talent

Not really, I'm more than happy to share the many ****-ups along the way :D

Indeed, going to have a pastel white loop for the CPU and a pastel green loop for the GPU :)

Plan is for the GPU backplate to look something like this awfully bodged up example of a paint job:

GPUMSI_1.jpg

Then have everything above it white, everything below green and a bright red with red LED's CPU block acting as the dragon:

All very Welsh :D

Did think about vinyl but going to attempt to spray it first. Never really done a proper paint job on anything until now though so could be entertaining for you guys even if it's stressful for me :D

I've got a few weird ideas when it comes to the layout of the loops as well, so it's definitely not going to be to everybody's taste. That's if it all fits where I'm hoping it will... Otherwise a more boring, standard layout may have to be used :p

I love having ideas in other people's threads.

It's so much cheaper :D

Right, time to fill your build log with horrendously expensive / difficult ideas... :D

Should have maybe had Cymru Am Byth in one of the corners of the glass window :)

I do have some red & green window tint film here and was playing with ideas re window designs... ;)

In other news... Some good news! Should have my hands on the case early next week, so just need to keep my ass out of the pub and save some cash for a MoBo, CPU, GPU and PSU :D

MASSIVE UPDATE:

Over a week later and there's still no update... Seems they're now also ignoring all emails from me regarding the MIA case I've already paid for

Screenshot%20from%202016-11-07%20150905.png

Was planning on getting either a MATX or ITX version made after this one was finished, but no way in hell that will be happening now unless this is sorted ASAP and with a decent bloody excuse.

<rant>It's not so much the time though mate, if they'd said originally that it would take 6 months that wouldn't have bothered me in the slightest. What has really ****ed me off was the whole "end of the week" for 3 weeks (obviously wasn't going to be finished end of the first week!) and the fact they now seemingly have absolutely no idea where my case is, aren't even sure if it has been shipped or not, but rather than be upfront and honest seem to just ignore all emails and won't tell me what's going on. Have they just not bothered posting it yet? Did they post my case to the wrong customer? Have UPS lost it? Have they not actually finished cutting it yet? No idea, but would be nice if they'd tell me one way or another!</rant>

OK, feel I owe the guys at Parvum a massive apology. Postage of the case was delayed due to personal issues which I obviously didn't know about, so was far to quick jumping the gun and pointing fingers. As me dad always said though, if you're quick enough to bite you should be quick enough to apologise... So sorry guys, look forward to getting started on the build!

Completely get where you're coming from on that one and it does seem to be a recurring theme that they go massively over the deadline they originally give, but think they'd solve a lot of these issues just be setting a more realistic date to begin with. As I said before I have no problems with it taking longer, just wish I'd been told originally that it would take a couple of months rather than keep moving the goalposts. I do understand that this last week has just been a bit of a balls up though due to other issues rather than unrealistic dates being given, so happy to cut em some slack on that one :)

Think I definitely dodged a bullet on the Hex Gear case, that thing looks an absolute nightmare and it's pretty obvious that they've not done anywhere near enough fine tuning to be selling it to the public. When the GPU doesn't even fit you've got major issues!

When it comes down to it though the amount of customisation Parvum will do for you, without the buyer requiring any 3D modelling skill, will always keep awkward buggers like me going back. Unfortunately I don't think Hex Gear are offering anything unique enough to survive, especially if the quality is going to keep falling as far short of the competition as it currently seems to.

I have often wondered how he churns out so many custom builds, guess that's part of the reason mine got delayed more than expected... Hopefully if this build goes to plan I'll get bumped up the list a bit for next time! :D

Think it could be time they followed Mayhems lead and employed somebody to deal with the customer relations side of things.

I'll start off by apologising to all that have posted, but as you can imagine I'm more than a little bit ****ed off atm, so haven't really been on the forum and will respond to all of your posts when I'm in a slightly better mood. To anyone wondering why I'm still in such a ****e mood when the case has been posted...

Screenshot%20from%202016-11-07%20150905_1.png

That is the current progress!

Still, regardless of the never arriving case I plan to get on with things, whether they go into this case or a plan B, soooooo... The EVGA PSU is ordered, along with the tools and the kit to braid at least the white cables. If that goes to plan I'll order the rest :D

Sorry once again for the lack of movement on this build and also for the lack of replies to the recent posts, really not in the mood but I promise I'll be more sociable once they actually bloody post me something to work with!

<rantpart2>Regardless of what JR23 is doing with the machines, hope you agree this is taking the **** a bit now Mads. Massively delayed anyway (I don't mind the time it takes, just be upfront if it's going to take a couple of months) but the postage label was then printed on 29th October and it still hasn't been posted... 2 weeks to put a fully finished & boxed case in the post?! Really?! I'm a fully paying customer that was planning another custom build in the very near future. Apart from the bad publicity of ****ing customers off it's costing them money directly, as there's little chance I'll want this hassle again, so won't be building the MATX / ITX version I was planning once this has been finished.</rantpart2>

Right, slightly better mood this morning so actually made time to check out the forum again! Will spoiler it so I don't fill an entire page with quote / replies :)

A good business would be working the machines out of hours themselves.

Running your own business is hard work and you have to work at least twelve to fifteen hours a day. The first five years are key, you either make it or you don't. But you certainly don't make it by laying back and taking your time.

I'm not demonising JR. He does not work for Parvum and has nothing more to do with them apart from the fact he uses their machines. JR = Joe, Imersa = Justin IIRC who is the owner.

Seriously G I ain't being funny but if I threw hundreds of pounds at a business and they took two months to do what JR can do in about five minutes* I would be annoyed. As I said, business, personal life doesn't come into it, not interested, don't care etc.

*obviously not literally five minutes.

Agree with this completely, if you don't get the business flying in the first 4 - 5 years then you're going to be in trouble, and annoying customers by ignoring emails (or only checking them once a week...) and seemingly having long delays on every build probably isn't the best way to gain the reputation needed to survive.

It's all well and good JR building truly epic machines every month and gaining the company a shedload of publicity at the same time, but if they don't then step up and offer the paying customers a decent level of service it's not really going to work out, regardless of how brilliant the cases are.

Yes, it's difficult running your own business but you can't fix everything by working ludicrous hours. In bursts, yes...but long term it has to be sustainable and 15 hour days are not. There are also delays between when you need to expand and when you can afford to expand. Also the paradox of when you're busy, you're too busy to train the new staff that will reduce your load. Good communication is key....but that's already been said.

Reckon all they need to fix 90% of the problems is someone to do phone / email / post etc. Don't need any more highly skilled staff doing renders or operating the machinery, just employ someone who can spend the day communicating with the customers and doing the boring day to day stuff so the guys can get on with making cases.

Well let's hope you get some concrete answers soon to get this back on track, my case is being picked up tomorrow and I honestly just don't want it back after months of pain... that said I would take an exchange at this point if it gets me a working rig. If you want cheering up check my log tomorrow, gonna post some pics of my temp case which is frankly a bit redneck haha.

I do understand the Parvum guys a bit more, hex just starting another business venture and little product flow I cannot see how it's sustainable. It's like, shipment from China, sell all on preorder, none left, wait two months and repeat. Fingers crossed for the Wales rig mate... keep us posted!

Hopefully hear something soon but not holding my breath... Still not shipped!

At least you finally have some movement to look forward to after months of hassle, can completely understand why you wouldn't want it returned though, especially if it is going to take months every time there's a slight* issue.

*Or a massive one when the GPU doesn't fit!

That does seem like it is destined for failure before it has even begun, and with the quality control issues Hex Gear obviously have I wouldn't be at all surprised if they disappeared before the end of 2017... Best get the case sorted soon if you're going to stick with em mate!

Just checked out your build log, glad to see you're getting it up and running even if it is going to be a bit redneck until the issues are sorted with Hex Gear. Especially liking the pumps mounted on the outside, it's like you saw Cenedd's build and thought an external rad was just a bit too common now :D

Maybe they're delivering it personally for you ;)
Could be shipped on a new label though.
Hope it shows up soon for you.

Any more delays and I'll be wanting it delivered by the queen, with her gently lowered through the bedroom window, case in her arms, from a bloody Chinook mate :D

Totally get your frustration mate, I think the worst bit is that you were so patient and finally it's going to ship... except it doesn't! Frankly bad timing of them to have some PR build from JR when they can't get an order out which was done in August.

I haven't had a response from a few of my sales enquiries either, be nice if one of them posted something by way of an update on realistic ETAs. Time to learn CAD and release an open source template?

Yeah the whole JR build does rub it in a bit. Not got anything against him at all mind and his builds really are drool worthy, just annoying following those builds when mine is constantly delayed with no delivery in sight.

At least if you can't buy one you can't be disappointed when it never arrives... Silver lining and all that :D

Now that's not a bad idea, if only I had the slightest clue with CAD would give it a go, but GIMP is about my limit when it comes to design work lol

OK, so I've just received an email from Parvum and am more than happy with their response. Looks like the case will definitely be arriving early next week and they've also thrown in a few goodies as way of apology :)

Once the new case has arrived I will ask the mods to remove this build log as it has gone massively off track and I'll start a fresh one instead.

Screenshot%20from%202016-11-11%20114229.png

Exactly mate, said in my response that had the original ETA been 6 months it wouldn't have bothered me, it was the fact I was getting excited for it to finally be despatched only to be told it then hadn't... Repeatedly.

Certainly renewed my confidence in them though so long as it does go smoothly this time. Maybe MiniW2W is go after all! :D

Definitely mate, after a few weeks of absolutely nothing going right it seems things are looking up today. First had the good news on the case then the GF found out that she can get a Visa to live in NZ that would also cover me... Changes are coming (hopefully!) :D

No worries, will probably be in contact again when it arrives Monday or Tuesday so will remember to ask then :) unless of course Mads can answer here?
