A ZZZAC Thread: Project ZZZAC

Would have been better if you saved a few notes for a full rebuild and made a project log when you actually had the parts. Considering you seem to be able to make a few quid from your PC fixing/dealings I'm sure it wouldn't of taken you long to save enough for a 2500k, Z68 board and 8GB ram.

For £85 the cpu sounds a bargain, although as said previously would obviously have been better (and yes twice as expensive) to just get a 2500k and delay any future CPU upgrades.

Instead of surprising everyone with a full project with a high end overclocked setup, instead we're left with more of the same as we've always seen from you - a lack of patience, and not much end product (yet).

Still I will return to this page in the future to see what you managed to knock together, even if only temporarily before you've broken it! LOL

:)

ROFL!
oh come on, im not really missing out on much of a hold back from upgrades, and tbh im only expecting this chip to last me until September-ish next year when it starts to show its age.
yeah, im missing a few points in all cpu benches, but efficiently, i probably wouldn't have gone mad clocking my 2500k either.
and for half the price weather i had money for a 2500k or not i would have gone for it.
Update, ordering the board tonight, and will get ram after i have tried my current ram, as it passed memtest the other day, so i am still not sure weather its my board or my ram, or both.
and i left a note for my mum to cancel the order of my board that was not in stock.
Note: i promises not to brwakes disss one :p

You mean BLK, and it's highly advised not to adjust it.

dont tell me what i mean!
i mean "BE" as an abbreviation of "black edition"
and its only advised to adjust it till it starts stressing the ram and other components involved.
none the less ive seen people over-clock stably a phenom x6 locked cpu to 4ghz

OURGH!!! I DONT WANT OR NEED TO OVERCLOCK! IVE SAID THIS ALREADY, AND IT WILL LAST ME THE SAME AMOUNT OF TIME, IM NOT LOSING MUCH PERFORMANCE, AND WILL UPGRADE WHEN I WANT/NEED TO, and right now im on a tri core, from 2008, three years later it still runs games to my satisfaction, im only upgrading due to system instability that is throughout the board cpu and possibly the ram....
okay its a compromise not getting the k chip, but it really is not much of one, i will loose a tiny tiny amount of power to be honest, and wait a minute, the first chip i was going to buy was a 2500 not a 2500k, and no one through a fit over that.
it truly is mystical how someone saving themselves money and compromising for a little little bit less power upsets you guys!
Now stop raging because i settled for maybe 5-8 fps less when the chip starts ageing a little and showing its age, and it should still pretty much flawww most games at max (exc battlefield 3)

SO: serious question do you want a project logg or are you just going to keep raging at me for compromising a lil tiny tiny bit?
If you keep raging and sobbing that i have "messed up again" or "sell everything then start again"
witch is useless for like 5-8fps in games that actually utilise 4 or more cores properly
one last thing, you seriously do give some very uneconomical and useless advice on this here forum.
ZZZAC

i'd argue uneconimcal is buying that chip and then deciding:

over the course of the 3/4 years, you'd end up spending more money this way.

The reason people are recommending the 2500K is becuase you're already getting a mobo that supports it, and overclocking, and that it wll last you at least 4 years realistically. They aren't recommending it purely becuase it costs more and we feel everyone needs the very very best even when its not necessary.
you're expecting me to get another year out of an overclock, i could if i pushed it but overall i dont want to, soon i will actually be out of school and hopefully get a job, i will be able to afford allot more than i can now, infact to say, ive got 6 months till freedom, and im able to go out and get a job or an aprenteship.
And has anyone else seen Linus's explanation on "futerproofing" a rig
in reality at the rate techs improving youre better of spending half as much as you were planning and keep it half as long before upgrades.

I would have probably got this motherboard:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-493-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1990

It is perfectly capable for the price. However,if you shop around you can get decent P67 motherboards for even cheaper.

The main advantage of the £120+ P67 and Z68 motherboards is symmetrical Crossfire/SLI support - if you are running a single card a cheaper motherboard would suffice.

Still that motherboard you linked to looks nice!:D

Regarding your CPU - the Core i5 2310 for £85 is a good value IMHO.

If you are running a single card setup especially I can see it easily lasting until the end of next year. Most games are using older engines still and a Core i5 will be fine.

FINALY! i have someone that respects a choice of mine!
yeah im only getting that board because the price is a quality indicator, and well a certain competitor has a offer on bringing it to a killer price.
i did not order last night as my mum had been on the drink, but ill get her to tonight.
EDIT: i really need my own credit card

I saw the price!! Nice!!!!!:D

However,if you are not overclocking then this motherboard can be had for around £80:

http://uk.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8Z68V_LX/

It has SSD caching and monitor outputs too.

But still,I suppose the motherboard you are considering is quite nice for the price. It gives you options.

If you had got a Core i5 2500K,you could probably only have enough dosh for an H61 or H67 based motherboard.

yeah, that would defeat the point a little
hmm lets get a overclockable chip... oh wait, i cant afford a overclocking motherboard...
i went got it, its just the price is 35% lowered, making it way to good to miss even though it still ended up like £25 more than my first choice board witch was the sapphire hydra p67.
EDIT: not going to lie, i hate asus boards, my board is asus, and almost dead, i have like 4-5 dead asus boards in my room, the only other 2 dead boards are intel and a very very old asus board

The reason you have 4-5 dead Asus boards in your room, is no doubt down to your love of buying faulty components though...

Nope, most of them worked at the point i got them, but where from joblots,
2 boards got halfway through windows installation and they just refused to work
one i installed windows and the power phases went, so it detects a shot and doesnt even power up atall.
and my own personal board witch works but intermittently freezes and has allot of problems regarding achi and raid and audio...

hmm...

i would seriously reccomend reading a review on a sandy bridge system just so that you
a) know what everyone is talking about (in particular the difference between FSB/BE/BLK)
b) realise just how utterly useless any attempt to oc a non k sandy is.

OURGH!!!!! FACEPLAM
can you not read that im not even going to clock this chip? i mention i may give it a go, but thats if i have to, and lets face it, im not going to have to over-clock it.
Fsb is front side bus, and yes i know what that is.
BE is an ebriviation of black edition
and so is phenom blk

I've got a ZAAAAACCCCINTOSH on my desktop at the moment.... all bare mobo + PSU + IDE drive

It's a Pentium 4 - 2.4ghz / Upgraded the RAM 256->768 by adding a couple of sticks that I found down the side of the sofa.

Also found a 9700 pro with a Zalman cooler on it just have to install SP2 and 3 .net before I can stick catalyst on it.

Wanna pic ? LOL

AHAHAHAHA, :D
sounds like my kinda pc ;)
im joking, i hate a computer that takes 6 attempts to boot, and randomly crashes, but then again, i havent been gentle with it. kinda a odge job :D
this new build will not be, exept maybe the heatsinks fan will be glued on because the rubber things ultimately bent and broke fins in my heatsink.
board should come on Wednesday-ish-hopefully :D

looks.... clean :D
but tbh when i took mine out the case it was cleaner, i even used it to dry my phone :D
EDIT: i somehow sold a rig like that with sli 7800gtx's a socket 939 dual core and 2gb ddr1 :D

i thought the qutoes i pulled from this very thread suggested otherwise :p

and blk (not sure if its back clock or bus clock) is the clock generator on a sandy motherboard, defaulted to 100mhz, basically like the old style FSB. Only diffference is that everything is tied to the blk on a sandy board, traditionally things like pcie, sata and so on had there own clock generators as they are very sensitive to change. hence why sandy boards have a habit of crashing after only 3-4mhz increase of blk. I have never before seen it being used in reference to phenom blacks (BE)

i have :L
but anyway sorry for the confusion :)
and yeah, ive decided against even trying to clock it up a lil, as its more than enough power

4 pages and you've bought the processor. I look forward to page 38 where you buy the case!

ourgh this is just a system upgrade not a fresh project, everyone should notice that my stacker has only been picture once or twice while tearing the rig down. what you don't realise is im actually only a day away from receiving the board (fingers crossed royal mail) and im only a board away from building this system, but obviously i plan on maybe go ssd caching and crossfire maybe.ect
thanks for taking note....

well it is a project, its technically not a scratch build but its a project, i will get on to the modding side after im happy with the hardware, that's how i work
and im not banned as it seems i am so seductive the admins re-read the reason i was perm banned and then unbanned. :D

Links m8.

I too want to see why ppl are h8in :D

because i dont listen to a bit of advise for a reason and it ends me with a broken build like i have now :D
EDIT: keeping my i5 would be a class example of not listening to advice, but when you run selling it and paying twice as much for a chip with only a bit more performance, from a teenagers point of view its very un-economical.... and that's especially if the teenager does not have a job
