A64 Mobile 4000

Stupid question coming up - will the Micro-ATX form factor of this board be a problem with my Antec Antec PlusView 1000AMG case? As much as I want to get this whole thing up and running, I don't want to be using sellotape, string and blu-tack to hold it all together

i don't think you should have a problem there, m8t. But its best to ask someone who has that specific case and mobo. also you should try look into EP-8NPA SLi (754) have heard that with a bios update it does indeed support turions, but not mobile DTRs, but it does let you set the parameters manually for them. Personally i think the Tforce is your best bet, if you decided to get it, make sure you get the Tforce and not Gforce 6100.

good luck.

regarding the case - here's a picture of it naked.

I'm not sure of the standoff configuration on M-ATX boards. Would I be best off asking in the cases or motherboards forum?

hi there

almost 99% sure that you have the holes for micro-atx, but its best to ask anyway in the motherboard forum. there are a few members who have that current board. post a picture too :)

The thing is ordered - should be with me tomorrow hopefully.

And cue another reinstall of windows...... :D

Hi Andy, have you seen this yet? It looks very interesting. 754 and AM2 support when the time comes. Still not sure if it will take your 4000+ though. I found it in stock and on sale in the UK for £49.99.

I just emailed Asrock to see if this supports mobile A64's. If it does even i may have to get one and swap over. :D

Quite a find! Just after I've gone and ordered the Biostar as well :p

could very well be one for the future though, when the time comes.

let us know when you get a reply back from Asrock!

Will do. I saw it in Custom pc mag originally.

****Edit**** I have now seen it for £41.77 in stock and in the UK. That is an unbelieveable price.

Just picked up a MSI Neo Plat 250 skt754 baord for cheap. Im looking around for a nice cpu to play with. The 4000+ Newark mobile has really caught my eye. 2.6GHz and 1MB cache:D

Any ideas if the 4000+ or simlar like the mobile Claws would work on the board? Could always buy a DFI NF3 250, if not.

My mate has a DFI NF3 250 board and he says his is great. Hes also got a 3000+ 512kb Newcaslte from me and a 3400+ 1MB claw that he bought shortly after getting the board a while ago. It seems to be the best board for the job tbh.

Back to the 4000+, can only see them for sale across the pond. Same with the 3700+, 3200+ and 3000+ Claw DTR's too. Are they available in the UK apart from the odd time on the bay?

We could have a little skt754 overclocking comp :D

Wait until i get my watercooling set up then. :D

I have found every one of the Turions on sale in the UK and all the mobiles up to the 3700+ but not the 4000+. Support for them seems to be patchy which is ridiculous as all the mobiles are on 754.

Seen the selection of Turions for sale not the mobiles.

Will have to wait till I get the rest of the system bits and pieces first. I will be torturing my setup on air :D

I think I'm going to have to go back to 1gb ram to get the best from this cpu.

With 2 x 1gb modules installed the computer wont boot with an fsb higher than 225 unless you go to 2T timings and run nearly everything as loose as it will go. Even then my PC4000 ram gives errors at 250Mhz.

Conversely, with 1gb installed in slot 1 the same sitcks of ram run at 275mhz with no issues.

I'm gonna have to find my max stable settings an benchmark them to decide but my options seem to be either:

235*13=3055mhz with 1gb ram @ 1 to 1

250*12=3000mhz with 1gb ram @ 1 to 1

275*11=3025mhz with 1gb ram @ 1 to 1

300*10=3000mhz with 1gb ram on a 9/10 divider

or

220*13=2860mhz with 2gb ram @ 1 to 1
IIRC once over 220 fsb running the 2gb on a divider to get a higher cpu clock doesn't even work but I've not tried this recently.

or

Sell the lot and buy an entry level x2 system.

Keep with the old skool :D

Good memory controller on the 4000+ Newarks generally?

I think I would be going with some old skool BH-5's :D 2x512MB of course. Should get the best from the setup.

Just need to get a 4000+ Newark and I would be on my way ;)

Not as good as the 3700 Claw but decent if you stick with 1gb.

TBH I've not seen any huge overclocks posted by people using 2gb ram.

People say TCCD works well with them but I think my Corsair XMS uses Infineon chips. I know nowt about RAM.

So the mobiles may not have the better mem controller then?

Intresting info. I might just try out 2x 1GB to test the memory controller the most and use the BH-5 for benching etc.

Would be intresting to see what the results are...

I've been under the impression the Newarks have the E6 memory controller - I've never seen it confirmed of course but that's the general thought. Maybe it's wrong.

I'm a little concerned about the memory not running a divider with 2gb though - I wouldn't have thought that is a motherboard issue as Meths has the pretty bulletproof DFI 250gb. However I'll give it a try when my new mobo finally arrives on tuesday.

Given my 3700 Clawhammer maxes out at 2750mhz, I think I'm gonna be seeing quite an improvement with the Newark whatever happens.

And if anyone's up for some competition, I'm game :D

Also, just a word on steppings - my 4000 Newark (sat on my desk in front of me, taunting me) is CAB2E 0535RPMW.

Would be good if more people who obtained these CPU's were to post their steppings too :)

Well my MSI Neo Plat 250 is set to arrive anytime now. Waiting for the city link guy to turn up.. Hopefully it would be a nice clocking board. Then onto buying a 4000+ mobile. Mate has a 3400+ Claw doing nothing in his draw. Yet to change over from his 3000+ Newcastle. Might give him a call later :D

Then onto buying a 4000+ mobile

where are u guys getting these 4000+ from, i cant seem to find even one.

are the mobile 4000+ turions as well?

i can get lower end turions, specially the 25w 2.2ghz. any idea how they clock?

The 4000+ is a Newark core - essentially a San Diego core for S754.

As for getting hold of a mobile 4000, you're looking at importing one.
