A8R32-MVP what is it

ah well thats blown that out of the water

thanks anyway must be the mobo or its the game core engine and the rd580

funny its these two games

So, to decide between the DFi and the Sapphire now...

Not worries about mega fast USB, just working USB, lol... The Sapphire has 2 onboard lan ports so is looking fave at present.... That way I can lose another PCI card...

Anyone tried these boards, what are the issues they have?

:(

Hi raja and thx for your reply, the two main drives, MaxlineIII's, purchased last year, work fine on raid 0, it's the older 10's I'm having a problem with. Last night I again managed to quick format them thro the repair/recovery console in XP, however chkdsk will not complete,just says there's an error, but not with the discs. The other thing is that the raid tool is showing my Maxline's as connection speed of 1.5g when they should be 3g. Is it the board, if so it'sgoing back asap as it came...

Hi again, just to refer to the lag issue that we seem to be experiancing with the A8R32-MVP. I've also got the X1900XT-X and I've tried Quake4 and it's bad, my A8V and X800 was better than this. However, and this is the strange thing, if youlook at the reviews of this board, using the same graphics card and 6.2 drivers, there is no mention of any problems, refer to here http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/asus_a8r32-mvp_deluxe_review/page6.asp This is very strange...

Well ChrisC
I have been thinking that very same thing myself none of the reviews mention any problems with the games that are causing trouble.

if you take the time and wade though them, all the games are tested but none give any clue as to problems, if indeed its a m/b problem I will never trust a review again ( If i was cynical i would say they have all been paid )

some thing is very strange indeed

Hi Guys,
I did notice on the post by coolasmoo that the graphics card is sharing an IRQ with the gigabit controller on the Xfire boards would this be responsible for online stuttering? coupled with a new Bios?
Phil

Hi, its not unusual for video card to share IRQ's with other devices, XP been doing that since it came out,my A8V did so and didn't have these issues at all. However I've noticed that when I get stuttering with Quake4 the HD light is flickering, which could point to a resource issue somewhere.

BTW, it was the fact that all of the reviews indicated that there were no problems that figured in my decision to purchase this board, what with this, and my HD problems, some regret is begining to creep it...
ChrisC

NB one other thing, ru all running XP X32 or X64 as I am?

Make sure you have read the FAQ else the Don's will be on your back

as chrsc said xp has been doing it for a long time

As I have said i do not have this m/b yet but i am sure that Coolasmoo runs 32 bit xp

the hd light flicking is a puzzle , more like a mem managment problem ( like a sys them with very low mem )

a point to consider Coolasmoo's post over at rage3d has has 77 view's with no reply , now that does puzzle me :eek:

BTW I to do run xp64

Hi, "the hd light flicking is a puzzle , more like a mem managment problem ( like a sys them with very low mem )". Agreed, if I let Quake4 auto detect it says I can run ultra high quality, however the disc churning goes into overdrive whilst loading into the game graphics. This might point to a HD controller issue and not a graphics card one. However I've performed HD Tach on my HD and it has a burst of over 250 and a average of over 90mbs/sec. I've also tested it with 3dmark06 and got a result of over 4800. I have also installed TOCA Racecar3 and it runs fine, weird...

Got a 92mm case fan installed (ok hanging but doing its job :p)... and now I can run 1T timing which boosted results -

X800 XT PE -> X1900 XTX (both stock)
3DMark01: 31703 -> 34452
3DMark03: 14122 -> 18965
3DMark05: 6747 -> 11776
3DMark06: 2324 -> 5362

:D

Just waiting for the new generation gpu coolers so I can OC this 1900 XTX ;)

i note you only have 1 gig of mem , would having 2 gig help out with the disk access

have you tried the other hdd controller?

Duke
your 06 score looks a bit low i am getting 6040 with a x1900xtx oc in the ccc panel

This thread depresses me :(

I was planning an upgrade to Xfire this month using this board, but now ...

Maybe I will wait and see what offerings DFI & Sapphire bring to the table.

It's really weird though, that not one review has picked up on this problem.

Btw ChrisC, edit your sig & read the FAQ - 4 lines only iirc.

Hi, there isn't another controller I can use, unless I try just one of the Maxlines on the single Silicon sata. 1g worked fine with my old system, A8V, all I've done is transferred over the memory and the CPU, I was able to run Quake4 with much higher settings.

Looks like its a duff one

have you tried emailing Wesley at anand's The guy who did the review to see if he can shed some light on the subject

I cannot understand why Coolasmoo's thread at rage3d has not generated a reply

Hi, I will as soon as I get home and can register, as far as Coolasmoo's thread is concerned, maybe there hasn't been many sold to those on that board?
ChrisC

Ok thx, just going to perform a fresh install of XP 32 onto one of the Maxlines only. I'll let you know how I get later this evening....

Hi guys,

Well i came back into this thread hoping you all solved it for me :(

Will have another dig around the intarweb tonight to try and get some answers but you know how it is.

Anyway to answer a few questions raised so far.

Im running XP SP2

A single X1900XTX

No overclock at all

Was using the Catalyst 6.2 with CCC

Tried 6.2 with Standard Control Panel, same thing

And the other problem i have with the Motherboard 'Whistling' ... If i run a program called RM Clock and disable the CPU Low Power Enable with C1 (Halt) it goes away :confused:

Although the Ram still makes a noise while exchanging data.

Hi Cool,

the noise is sytem noise that is finding it's way to your speaker in the pc. I have the same problem.

secondly I have typed an email to Wesley at Anandtech to read his response/view.

here's a copy

'Hi Wesley,

A number of people have purchased the a8r32-mvp, and all of us are having issues with the performance of this board in certain games including quake 4.

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17535467

check page 8 onwards. We find it curious that not one of the reviews we have read on the web have picked up any of these issues, including yours. Especially as some the games used for benchmarking are the very games we all have issues with. I know there is a lot of uncertainty in pc hardware and individual setups, so it can be difficult to guarantee success for everyone, but there are too many people having the same problem with different setups for it to be ignored.

Bios 0307 beta has already been leaked, and unfortunatley at the moment (unless asus act quickly) does not address the issues we are having, so we are all rather dissapointed, and on the brink of returning the motherboards.

Can you offer any advise?

Thanks
Raja'

I'll let you guys know what I get back from Wesley.

Raja
