A8R32-MVP what is it

I have the luxury of being able to get 4Gb just now. The missus will have a fit if I upgrade then ask for more in a month or so lol. So its spend it or lose it!

I figure 4Gb cant hurt.

What about the OCZ stuff? ie OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC4000 Dual Channel Platinum Series EB-DDR CAS3

Is that ok in this board guys?

You know of course unless your running XP64 your only going to get 3.5 out of the 4 GB right? (using XP Pro)

"Microsoft Windows XP Professional, designed as a 32-bit OS, supports an address range of up to 4 GB for virtual memory addresses and up to 4 GB for physical memory addresses. Because the physical memory addresses are sub-divided to manage both the computer’s PCI memory address range (also known as MMIO) and RAM, the amount of available RAM is always less than 4 GB." (about 3.5GB is what you will see...)

Scunnerd!!

Still It will come in useful for Vista. Also I might just reinstall with XP64.

Then again I might just stay at 2Gb. But I would have thought even with the limits there that 3.5Gb ram would help with soem games like BF2 load a little faster etc.

Its just a case that I have the cash now and if I dont get what I need then I wont be able to for a while.

I downloaded and flashed the new BIOS last night.
It does make quite a difference to the stability of this board. Previous best was 2.6 GHz with my X2 4400, however went up to 2.75 last night with no problems.
I will try it higher tonight and see what happens. Certainly worth Flashing if your overclocking. :D

well since i had nothing else to do today, i re-installed my OS thinking it may fix the problem, but to no avail. :( (long shot, but worth a try)

Anyway, my problem remains, 10 minutes into any game, and the system re-boots to a black screen, and you can hear the hard drives accessing like crazy from the system. 2 weeks now, and i still have'nt been able to use this crossfire system, other than browsing the net!

All we can do is wait for Asus to bring out a further bios to sort this mess out. Or, i could go for the DFI board, but from what i hear, they have their problems too.

BTW - anyone else having this problem, like mine? Any suggestions ?

what psu are you using?

How heavily loaded is your system?

I found the Seasonic S12 600 to fail when put underload with six case fans and the cpu cooler, also had 2 drives in raid. I would get freezes in game and also on Firefly Forest 3dMark 06. Removing 2 case fans cured it, however I'm in the market for a new psu.

I did very conclusive tests proving this btw.

Had no real issues with the DFI board, the issues faced by other atm, revolve around the Sil controller (which I don't use anyway), enabling usb keyboards and mice at the same time (i don't use either). A few flashing bios issues, which don't happen if you follow the instructions properly. But i'd wait, let the bios mature, if you're thinking about it.

i'm using the FSP 600w psu, which is Crossfire certified.

In my system i have 2 hard drives, 2 cdroms, and 5 fans, all of which are 5 or 7v modded.

What with 1900's in crossfire? I reckon your psu's the culprit if you're using the 1900's, as it's the 700 watt version that's certified for those.
Using those case fans and cd roms with the 600w maybe the limiting factor. I maybe wrong, but I did prove this to be the case with the Seasonic.

never used it, not even on my CFX3200, it has issues on that atm too. I'm quite happy with my 2 wd 250's in raid 0 on the ULI controller. ATM getting far better bios support with the DFI too, had 2 new bios' in the last 2 weeks.

Well, im stumped.

Ive had regular 1-second stutters on my whole system since i installed this board one month ago, every hour or so. Auto, manual, stock or oced, no difference.

Ive got a couple more things to try, and im going to lock down some more stuff in the BIOS - USB to 2.0, turn off ALL unused devices, etc, but somehow i dont think thats gonna do it.

I hear that people with the DFI are having it as well =/

I just installed this board in my system.

All is fine (so far) apart from one thing.

I updated the bios to 0404 and now I have a PCI device in device manager that wasnt there before  *Update* After rebooting a couple of times the device disapeard from the device list

EDIT: I lied, there is another odd thing, sometimes the bios forgets the boot order of the HD's this happens after a crash, the bios resets it's self to defaults.
Is this the overclock protection kicking in even though I'm not overclocking it? is there anyway to turn this off?

Well, I've raised a ticket with both Asus and Ati - I've already had to return a board back, so don't want to have to do it again. Hopeing there is a fix for this via bios/driver update, but as its not effecting everybody I'm starting to think its a dodgy board again... :(

Guess I'll see what either party make of the calls I've raised with them. :D

Been very slow progress with these. Ati first came back with the usual "try checking your gfx settings automated message". I had to respond to the call and say "no it wasn't fixed" otherwise it would have stayed on closed?? A couple of days ago they finally responded to this - by asking me to run a program which creates a report of the drivers etc on my pc. Nothing back as yet.

As for Asus - just got a reply this morning along the lines of "just got this due to a mail system failure"?!?!?!?! They also state that they have tried this on a board and had no problems.... bit tricky to read as its a bit badly written (probably as its not their first language ;) ) and I can't quite figure out whether they want me to respond to it, or if the details have been passed on already...

....so a week later and nothing much to report... :(

Has anyone noticed their Asus getting hotter since the latest bios? Perhaps it's just me worrying about nothing.

True, I have got a higher o/c with 0404, and because of water cooling the cpu fan fan is no longer there to help cool the board.

But after a couple of hours playing the GRAW demo last night - gotta say I'm loving that! - the motherboard temp was 44'C while the cpu was only at 40'C! Highest I'd ever seen the Asus go prior to that was around 38 after a good long session of F.E.A.R.
