Good point there - remember my GF's ipod tracks distorting because of it.

gt

thats right. its all down to the way apple have written their EQ software - poorly lol. when you apply eq on a sony or any other decent mp3 player, it might raise the bass and treble by 4db each for example. what it will then do is lower the overall signal level by 4db so that it doesnt cause signal clipping.

Apple though, they dont bother to lower the signal after the eq. so you are left with bass thats 4db above normal and what happens is if the bass on the original recording is near 0db (ie as loud as it can be recorded) then the apple tries to push past that maximum and pushes the signal in to clipping. the result is distortion even at very quiet levels - the signal is clipping even before its amplified.

silly apple.

James, it sounds the same.... But quieter.

But then I plugged the earphones into the comp. And play the same song and with the same EQ settings, it sounded the same. (EQ "preamp" setting on +12dB)
But then I adjusted the "pre-amp" settings by lowering it to 0dB. It sounded good. Bass was thumping but also clear at the same time. So how do I get this on my Ipod.

Whats the preamp option on my ipod? tell me its not the sound check thing, because I want that on, I like to listen to music loud.

Ohh what the heck. Maybe I should have got something other than an Ipod :confused:

So infact, its not really the earphone that is the problem, its down to the way ipod is setup by Apple? So how do I fix this? there must be way... (buying better earphones won't help much surely?)

i must admit, they arent the best. at least it can be sorted on the touch and iphone, but it should have worked for your classic too. unfortunately people are reportig (pretty much across the board) that the classic arent very good in the sound department, worse than older ipods even. im not really sure where you should go from here because if its the ipod then it will do it with whatever earphones you use

It does not distort at all with the EQ OFF.

yeah thats your answer then im afraid. i dont know how to fix that:s

The headphones are GOOD. I listen to Itunes andthe bass is V. Nice bass. I listen to HIP HOP music.

But when I listen to the Ipod. The bass is distorted.

The sound quality (BASS) of the Ipod Classic 80gb is POOR. The bass it produces is RUBBISH. I kind of regret buying the IPOD.

I Should have got a Sony MP3
