Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2012, Yas Marina - Race 18/20

Lol RBR. You have to admit they play the rules game better than anyone else.

I did wonder why McLaren didn't do something like this with Hamilton in Spain. There must be more of an advantage to being able to completely change the car setup that offsets having to start from the pit lane.

Thats to much thinking for mclaren. Anyways vettel from the pits is going to add excitment to the race. I think that he will catch alonso by the 1st pits.

I think the difference was, Hamilton clearly had the fastest car already and the McLaren doesn't rely on time trialling like the Red Bull, so changing the set up would have had little or no effect.

McLaren would have got there, just 3 weeks later after it had been through 5 commitee meetings.

Vettels hardly in a dog of a car.

McLaren didn't event change the tyre strategy, did they? And Hamilton wasn't flying past people down the straight so some longer gears would have been helpful.

If your a top driver there's very little difference between starting at the back and starting from the pits, so why not choose the option that allows you to use the absolute best setup, even if its only minor changes.

Fair comment, but they did adjust his strategy (they just didn't change to hard tyres at the start) he was the only driver to finish on a two-stop strategy.
