Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2012, Yas Marina - Race 18/20

Sebs red bull to have a kers failure, he drops out, Alonso wins?

Please.

To be honest I don't care what happens so far as Alonso overtakes Seb.

I know the usual fuel loads fuel loads fuel loads but P7+8 for Ferrari behind both Lotuses isn't encouraging.

It's really weird, at the beginning of the season, I didn't much like Alonso. But after this season. If one of them deserves to win their third WDC, it's Alonso, not Seb.

Strange comment, surely the driver who deserves it is the one that scores most points like any other year.

I think what he means is that Alonso is where he is because he has consistently way outperformed his car. Vettel has done nothing of the sort. In that sense he is a more deserving driver.

In my opinion I really can't stand to see seb take another wdc. It's painful to watch and is killing f1 for me tbh. Stick any of the top half of the grid in that car and they would most likely win, yet the tv pundits won't stop piling on the praise for him and what a great driver he is.

or maybe that can be explained by the fact that not only do we have time to build Seb a superior car, we also have time to build Mark a less superior version, in which case, thanks. The boys in the factory are better than i thought.

That's why I support a team over a driver. 95% car.. And long may it stay. I don't want single spec cars

Funny because Mark isnt.

depends if you would put mark in the top half of the grid, hes always been inconsistent when hes good hes good but he can be almost invisible or well behind where he should be fairly often

he seemed better before all the coanda exhaust crap started up again same as he didnt seem to like EBD much either

Fair enough comment.

I'd say its more a case of, the only thing you can really say about Vettel, is he's better than Webber, he may be better than Alonso/Hamilton, but cruising around infront of everyone not really pushing the car doesn't prove that.

ULtimately Vettel can usually beat him in qualifying and has far less really bad qualifying sessions than Webber, and that makes a huge difference. Webber might be the second best driver on the grid, or the 10th best, or 20th, all we can say is Vettel is quite clearly outperforming him.

It seems like Webber tends to get more bad luck, more tyre issues and more kers issues, but ultimately when problem free he doesn't seem to have the pace.

i'm not sure Alonso has "outdriven" his car as much as people have said either, too much focus on qualifying pace and not enough on race pace, which Ferrari were solid in from the start of the season. I'm not sure Alonso deserves it because his driving has been spectacular, but he's done more exciting and difficult overtaking moves than Seb has this year, thinking ducking and diving in Valencia, ultimately Alonso got a 25 point gain on Seb because the Red Bull died than because Alonso drove brilliantly.

Ferrari have made mistakes but few and far between, one for the team(giving away second in Canada) and one from Alonso(turning into Kimi). I'm fairly sure I said not a few races ago that Ferrari will have some bad luck and ALonso will make a mistake, all drivers do.

You feel that Alonso has had more exciting drives and good races(compared to the cars ability) than Vettel has... but Vettel has needed to drive really hard less often.

Its not so much Vettel doesn't deserve it, its that he hasn't really proved it, because the car has been so good he's cruised to all his wins with no competition, and hasn't exactly blown everyone away when the car wasn't the best.

For me, no driver has had more points taken off him than Hamilton, his car hasn't had the margin say Vettel has had, when he has won, and no one else, full stop, has managed to finish races with as broken a car as he has in the past 3-4 races. The fishtailing drive, as Whitmarsh said, was the best point won ever for Mclaren, that car shouldn't have been capable of finishing let alone stealing a point or keeping anyone behind for as long as he managed.

Hamilton driver of the year so far for me, Alonso, put in the best drives of those in contention for the title, Vettel, might be great but hasn't really for 3 years had to prove it such is the dominance of Red bull's car.

Maybe Vettel isn't as good as Alonso or Hamilton we have no accurate way of comparing them as long as they are in different teams.

Can we really say Vettel wont have earned his titles ? most of the drivers have worked hard to "earn" their place on the grid and they all know its a bit of a lottery with some teams having more tickets than another but its not a championship based on pure luck, anyone who wins it did something to earn it.

Vettel's a great driver.
By the end of next year he may have 4 titles to his name.
BUT, Alonso is just that bit better.

Which driver deserves to win the title? IMO, Alonso. Best driver in F1.
Which team deserves to win the title? IMO, RBR. No doubt about it. RBR are such a well-drilled outfit, other teams can learn a thing or 2 from them.

People heap praise on Newey, but Horner is a damn good manager.

RBR appear to bring in heaps of upgrades to every race. If the reports are true, then Alonso was about to tweet a message that the rear end of the Ferrari car is exactly the same today as it was a few months back.

What I am most impressed with, is that RBR are consistently, year after year, churning out the best car. This isn't a 1-hit wonder. And this year, when they didnt have the best car, they kept pushing and never gave up. As a result, they have finally ended up with the best car.

Top spice up the title race we need a DNF from Vettel, otherwise, it is conceivable that Vettel could win the title before the last race of the season.
