Is it time to prematurely start a new thread deliberating who gets the second Mercedes seat to partner Russell? :p
Norris to partner George would be an epic pair in the Mercedes i reckon :D Lots of love for Norris , hope he gets a shot one year as put in some stunning drives this year , i actually wanted him to win at Sochi over Lewis even though it would have affected his points, stunning effort from him

Who's to say that Macca won't have a better car than Merc for 2022? Complete new set of technical regulations.

I agree Masi messed up and actually I feel bad for Lewis the most, why you can't see that I'm actually agreeing with this beggars belief.

HOWEVER, I'm also not taking anything away from the fact Max is WDC, he totally deserved it (yes as did Lewis) based on the whole season, but anyone saying it's a paper win is just purely delusional and butthurt at this stage.

Not exactly the words I'd use, but I entirely agree with the sentiment. Max is a worthy winner. Yes, this was nonsense, but the season could have swung on many other points too.

Thanks to Lewis and Max for a fantastic season and hopefully we see more of this next year with more teams in the fight too.

Absolutely.

I don't think Lewis should quit and I don't think he will. I was a huge Schumacher fan and I am a huge max fan so it might be expected that I don't want to see Lewis get to 8 world championships, but I really wouldn't mind that. If he races and gets it next year I suspect he will retire then as the GOAT. If he doesn't win it I suspect he will retire and find something else to do.

I hope McLaren produce a championship winning car for next season , they have certainly improved over the years and are back fighting now they have a Mercedes engine in the back again although going by Redbulls pace this season maybe they should have stuck with Honda till the end .... either way i hope next year they are back fighting at the front as both Lando and Riccardo deserve it :)

Yeah I'm being a Lewis fanboy here, but I really disagree with those saying Max deserves it. I just don't think he did. He drives dangerously, contravenes the rules and driving standards that other drivers follow and somehow got away with it all year. Beyond that his arrogance is galling, he is totally unsportsmanlike and just not a good example for the sport.

Lewis should come back and spend his season not backing out of Max's lunges and take him out every race..

The world's logic and reasoning is entirely broken and this F1 drama has just highlighted it even more. I think a lot of pundits/journalist can't process things properly in their brains.

"But you can see Masi's dilemma here: whichever decision he took would decide the race one way or another, there was no neutral or "fair" option."

NO. That is clearly absolute rubbish. Had he stuck to the actual defined rules, he would not be deciding the race. The race would have been decided by actual rules and drivers. Making up a rule out of thin air is what decided the race.

Maybe Hamilton was asking the racing gods for one piece of luck too much for the last race to finish under a yellow flag when he had a fast adversary behind him.

What the actual ****^ !? Hamilton was winning the whole race and Max only stood a semblance of a chance due to other cars accidents and the ability to just go for any wild strategy as he had nothing to lose. The "luck" yesterday was entirely on Max's side, regardless of Masi's eventual ridiculousness at the end.

The fairest option would have been a VSC, but due to the nature of the crash that's immediately ruled out. After that, the fairest option would be to red flag (contravening the pre-race agreement about not red flagging the race because of incidents at said corner, though now it seems perfectly fine to change your mind in the race - so why not) the race, everyone gets to start on softs and we have a 5 lap sprint to the finish. Best man wins.

Whatever happens, when the next season starts all we're going to be talking about is Max's lunges and what other drivers are going to do in response. I think the first example of him going down the inside and forcing someone off, if it's a Merc driver we're going to see a hard as argument as we did towards the latter part of this year. We'll probably also see more Silverstone-esque crashes. Well done Max for making the sport more dangerous and unsporting for everyone

Stopped reading after that tbh
Cool story bro.

I was thinking about this, surely a regular safety car is rather unnecessary in this day-and-age? When a VSC comes out are the cars electronically limited? How does it work? Seems to be a regular safety is totally unnecessary and generally unfair on the leader. You could be 1min up the road from your nearest competitor and about to win, when someone crashes and causes a full safety car and nullifies your advantage entirely. It seems totally stupid. If a VSC limits everyone's speed and maintains the gap then surely this should start being the first port of call?

Leaves them in a bit of a hole, as they've released Bottas. So likely an entirely new inexperienced driver line up for 2022...

I'd stick Piastri in the second car.

Kimi to make his comeback comeback ;)

Well the BBC in their live text said something like "this is the first championship for Honda in 30 years, could we see an era of Honda dominance." Must have slipped their mind that Honda have left the sport now. It's always been a terrible site for F1. JA on F1 was good, but then he sold out to the publishers of Autosport and other magazines.

I don't think sporting contracts lock people in like you might expect them too. They are often getting changed or cancelled.

You can't really stop someone from retiring. And would a team even want someone in their car who's 'not interested' it would be just be dangerous, and performance would be crap.
