That made me chuckle...nothing to do with Max here and he shouldn't be penalized in any way for what happened in the last few laps...or are you insinuating Massi done this to let Verstappen win?

I'm insinuating that only people blinded by the fact they wanted Verstappen to win could look at what happened and not interpret it as Masi making a colossal balls up of it all by ignoring the rules and then the FIA arse covering by trying to stretch the definition of 15.3 to ludicrous levels.

It's not just a bit of the usual inconsistency to subjective decision making that we all know and love hate, it's a step beyond that.

Edit - I said way back in the thread, the FIA have robbed everybody here when it comes to the fans and Masi has put them in an impossible position. They're going to have weasel and worm their way through the regs to try and justify this nonsense because it's utterly unfair on Max to award him a title and then take it away again because it turns out he was afforded an opportunity to win, only due to someone else making a mistake. It's also unfair on Lewis that he was taken from a legitimately competitive position, arguably a nailed on win (or very likely) depending on how the rules were applied, to being left without the title and having to look like a sore loser if he wanted to challenge the obvious injustice of what happened.

I agree, Max shouldn't be penalized, but then neither should Lewis have.

I agree Masi messed up and actually I feel bad for Lewis the most, why you can't see that I'm actually agreeing with this beggars belief.

HOWEVER, I'm also not taking anything away from the fact Max is WDC, he totally deserved it (yes as did Lewis) based on the whole season, but anyone saying it's a paper win is just purely delusional and butthurt at this stage.

You can't have two winners, last night it was unfortunately Lewis/Merc who were the victims of a balls up from the FIA, the biggest balls up from them to date to be clear (but they have also explained their interpretation and it actually just confirms the regs are just not clear at all).

Thanks to Lewis and Max for a fantastic season and hopefully we see more of this next year with more teams in the fight too.

What I disagreed with was the notion that this was simply business as usual or 'the status quo' from the FIA. Business as usual is crap subjective consistency - what happened here was a step beyond that, with a race director actively choosing to ignore established rules and implement his own interpretation at such a critical point in the entire championship. That's not status quo, that's something that needs to be thoroughly pulled apart.

I don't think Lewis is coming back next season to the delight of max fanboys.

That would be insane for him to quit the sport because he lost 1 championship. If anything that gets him more invested as he is yet to secure the 8 championship record he wants.

I'm in two minds.

If Lewis did retire I'd be gutted that he did it off the back of this because the orange army would see this as a victory. On the other hand, it's a good symbolic middle finger to walk away from the worst decision in recent memory (ever?) in F1. That'll certainly hurt the ratings.

Did he? Wow never knew that. How the hell did he get out of that?

He didn't want to drive, wasn't that he wanted out to go to another team. And family reasons. Likely a break clause in the contract that cost him some money. Plus he'd have happily carried on doing promotional duties for Mercedes off the back of winning the WDC.

IIRC he told Toto that he'd achieved what he wanted and no longer wanted to drive. He made it clear that his focus was his family and personal life, and they parted ways amicably.

For that I respect the guy. He knew what he wanted and left on a high.

I cant see him Quitting tbh , if anything surely this will make him even more hungry for next years challenge and with new cars coming in shouldn't be the same as it was previous years. He also has a 2 year contract till 2023 although he may have a get out clause included in that ....

Lewis took Perez almost immediately but Perez managed to get back at him due to DRS. There was no DRS on the final lap so Lewis was **** having 40 lap old hards compared to brand new softs. The time delta between near end of life hards and brand new softs would have been colossal.

A smidge over 2.7 seconds difference in lap times at the end.
